When Al Ahli Hospital was struck on Oct 17, MSM initially reported the incident as an Israeli strike. But soon after global condemnation, Israel began to deny responsibility and shift blame, claiming that a Gaza rocket aimed at Israel had misfired and struck the hospital.

Immediately after the Israeli military’s denial of responsibility for the strike, major media outlets edited their news coverage to remove references to Israel. Over the next few days, Israel presented fabricated evidence that MSM failed to verify or fact-check.

First, Israel claimed that an aerial explosion seven seconds before the hospital strike was a misfired Gaza rocket that then struck Al Ahli Hospital. This claim has been thoroughly debunked, first by local journalists and then—much later—by @nytimes.

As @nytimes found, the munition that Israel claimed was a misfired Gaza rocket was, in fact, a missile launched from Israel that had no connection to the subsequent explosion at Al Ahli Hospital. That is, Israel misidentified its own missile and blamed it for the hospital strike.

It took @nytimes 8 days to reach this conclusion even though all evidence used in the Times investigation was available within hours of the hospital strike. Local journalists, on the other hand, identified the munition as a likely Israeli Iron Dome missile almost immediately.

.@BBCNews and @washingtonpost also took over a week to amend their previous coverage and clarify that there was no connection between the aerial explosion and the subsequent hospital strike.

@BBCNews @washingtonpost .@Geoconfirmed posted on the night of the hospital strike that @AlJazeera live footage showed a Gaza rocket "failing and breaking up in two pieces, one falling on the hospital." It took Geoconfimed four days to delete this post.

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera Second, Israel presented a video of an alleged “intercepted” phone conversation between two “Hamas members.” The UK’s @Channel4News reported that the video was obviously inauthentic to people familiar with the local “language, accent, dialect, syntax, and tone.”

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera @Channel4News A sonic investigation by @earshot_ngo found that the two voices in the video had been recorded separately and then edited together, disqualifying the video as a credible source of evidence.

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera @Channel4News @earshot_ngo Third, MSM failed to include key facts & context in its coverage of the hospital strike. For example: 1) The hospital was initially struck three days before Oct 17 bombing; 2) After that initial strike, the hospital received warnings from Israel of more strikes to come; [cont’d]

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera @Channel4News @earshot_ngo 3) In the five minutes before the Oct 17 strike, Israel struck four areas in the vicinity of the hospital; and 4) Israel has a long and sordid history of targeting hospitals in Gaza. MSM rarely, if ever, mentioned these key facts.

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera @Channel4News @earshot_ngo MSM also failed to consider Palestinian sources, omitting crucial eyewitness evidence about the characteristics of the hospital strike from the very people who experienced it, including first responders.

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera @Channel4News @earshot_ngo Rather than doing its job of verifying claims and finding facts, MSM framed responsibility for the strike as a blame game between two equal and opposite sides & placed the burden of proof on the victims of the strike.

@BBCNews @washingtonpost @GeoConfirmed @AlJazeera @Channel4News @earshot_ngo As Israel relentlessly drops bombs on Gaza, Palestinians must prove they did not bomb themselves. Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate says: enough is enough. MSM must adhere to basic journalistic principles of integrity & objectivity or risk facilitating Israel’s ongoing genocide.
