Israel is about to launch a ground invasion into Rafah. I make this call to leaders of all states to urgently take military action against Israel to protect civilians and prevent genocide. This is a legal obligation because ⭕️The "Responsibility to Protect (R2P) principle requires states to take collective action in a timely and decisive action to prevent genocide. This was invoked in 2011 for military intervention in Libya ⭕️ A UN Security Council resolution is not a prerequisite, based on the doctrine of humanitarian intervention. This was invoked by NATO in 1999 for military action in Kosovo ⭕️ The Genocide Convention obligates states to prevent genocide in other states when they become aware of the risk. The ICJ has already rules that this is the case. Denouncing Israel’s apartheid system and genocide in Gaza is where we should start. We need sanctions too. Trotting out tired cliches about 2 peoples living in peace and security, not to mention “Israel’s right to defend itself” is offensive when the genocide in Gaza is STILL happening. Right now.
