Recent CFB Hall of Fame inductee Urban Meyer strongly believes that the SEC and Big Ten conferences are the best in college football. Meyer also made it clear that Alabama deserved to be in the College Football Playoff. “You finish top-two in the SEC, you belong in the playoff man,” Meyer said, “Those two conferences are better than the other two conferences.”

My 24 team College Football playoff criteria: -4 losses eliminates you from qualification -10 Auto bids for ALL FBS Conference Champions with less than 4 losses -14 at Large bids for highest ranked teams with less than 4 losses -Any Conference Champ with 4 losses forfeits their auto bid and it becomes an additional at large bid for -Top 8 ranked teams get 1st round bye -Top 16 teams get at home playoff game in the 1st and 2nd round -National Championship game played by 2nd week of January

In December, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said that the SEC deserved 7 bids to the College Football Playoff and that 5 wasn’t enough. He said that Vanderbilt and Texas should also have been in the Playoff. Despite getting 5 bids, the SEC did not reach the national championship game for a third season in a row. In bowl season as a whole, the SEC finished 4-10, the worst of any conference. Two of those wins and two of those losses were to other SEC teams, so in non-conference postseason play the SEC went 2-8. With Miami’s victory over Ole Miss last night, the SEC finished 6-8 against the ACC, the second time in the last three years they’ve had a losing record to the ACC. It seems the era of blind special treatment and benefit of the doubt for the SEC has come to an end. We’ll have to wait until August to see if there’s 10 SEC teams in the preseason poll again to get the narrative rebooted.
