Ah yes, that’s what the people want, more government overreach

In laymans terms, they're trying to bring it under the umbrella of being able to charge you a licence fee even if you don't watch the BBC

❌ No social media for under 16’s ❌ Restrictions on VPNs ❌ Regulation of streaming services. ❌ threats to ban X The restrictions on our freedoms are coming thick and fast. Our government does not serve us, they oppress us.

Is this the United Kingdom or Communist China?

Nah they're saying they're safeguarding people but they're just trying to get the legislation in and then they will be able to charge you with the licencing fees.

More Government censorship. These channels are already woke as hell.

Anyone vote for the government to treat us all like children?

State control of the media, how communist of Labour.. you'll watch what we want you to watch...

So now the UK wants to treat streaming like old-school TV? Bringing Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ under Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code?? People PAY for these platforms to watch what they want, when they want and now regulators want to step in like it’s 2003 cable television? Streaming blew up because it gave viewers freedom. No watershed rules. No outdated broadcast restrictions. Just choice. If this turns into censorship disguised as “standards,” don’t be surprised when subscribers start asking why they’re paying premium prices for regulated content. First it’s “oversight.” Then it’s “compliance.” Then it’s creative control. Where does it stop? Are we protecting viewers… or policing them? 👀

Fuck Ofcom. It's time for people to start ostracizing anyone who even works there, anyone who provides a service to them, even the lunch van. I am tired of this "independent" government attack hound.

🚨 Wake-up call for @DCMS @lisanandy & @Ofcom Netflix is 🇺🇸 Amazon Prime is 🇺🇸 Disney+ is 🇺🇸 These American global giants have ZERO legal obligation to obey UK 'censorship' rules extraterritorially. They MAY comply to avoid fines/lawsuits—but smaller US/overseas digital streaming services? They can (and should) IGNORE you entirely. Unenforceable abroad. You have ZERO jurisdiction. Upcoming US Granite "Censorship Shield" laws will ensure legal sanctions and fines are imposed on you. Focus on failing UK legacy media instead: BBC, ITV, Channel 4—all dwindling audiences, yet suspiciously many Ofcom staff hail from there. Coincidence? Why stretch powers to global digital players when British TV is bleeding viewers? Time to rethink this power grab before you damage UK's international reputation even further. #OnlineSafetyAct @SecRubio @UnderSecPD @elonmusk @ADFIntl @ADFLegal @KristenWaggoner @Paul_B_Coleman @prestonjbyrne @beverleyturner

“We’re from the government, and we’re here to help.” This is simply in order to assert control over a foreign media landscape emerging from the ashes of legacy British institutions like the BBC. Hopefully this will be another one of Starmer’s U-turns

All about control. And then eventually charging you extra to access these services.

He’s like the most anti fun PM in history. His idea of a fun night is sat talking to the snooker player Steve Davis about paint samples.

We joke about North Korea but each day it feels more like we are there

we need to abolish ofcom can @reformparty_uk @RestoreBritain_ guarantee this ? this is killing free speech

Come on, this is getting a bit ridiculous now is it not

I wouldn't be surprised that one of the next steps after this is to make a requirement to pay the TV license fee to watch streaming services.

Id rather Ofcom focus on removing mid-term contract price rises in broadband and mobile contracts the end customer takes out. But alas, they side on the business. Another useless industry regulator like Ofwat and Ofgem.

Continuing the worrying trend of authoritarian control

Ofcom is not fit for purpose.

Ofcom does not have the authority to directly control or censor what other countries show on their own television channels or media platforms. As a UK regulator, its jurisdiction is limited to the United Kingdom.

Happy that the government is busy with priority concerns of the British people

Government want everything monitored apart from the grubby little secrets and paedo party members

Ah yes, something else nobody wants or voted for 👏

No one cares about ofcom -another useless compromised agency

Of all of the priorities that this government could be focusing on this is what they pick. I can’t wait to never live under a Labour government ever again.

This move by Ofcom reflects governments trying to apply traditional broadcast standards to streaming platforms. It improves content accountability and user protection, but may increase compliance costs and reduce platform content flexibility.

@Mr_Lawrence4 How about bothering with GBNews & actually enforcing your rules @Ofcom rather than ignore what that channel perpetuates & blatantly ignore when petitions are signed!

Well they can Fook off ! Ofcom has been given too much power ! This organisation needs abolishing - it’s too much government led but on the woke side !

Shame they don’t bring GB News under Ofcom’s broadcasting code.

Maybe they'll get around to GB News eventually? Or do we need a measles pandemic before that happens?

What's the point when Ofcom is as much use as a chocolate fireguard anyway?
