It's incredible. The Gulf monarchs' support for any attack is vital — without their airspace, the illegal attacks on Iran cannot take place. So they, on the one hand, are all in and have supported the war. But now they realise America cannot defend them, and they are vulnerable. Iran cannot be defeated with another bombing campaign, and bombing won't open the Strait of Hormuz. Trump is in a mess of his own making. He can't bomb his way out of this, and walking away with no deal would be a disaster heading into the midterms. Heads, Iran wins; tails, America loses.
