This is the classic arc of performative strongman leadership that imposes a punitive policy for headlines, then quietly retreats when reality bites. The backtracking reveals what was always true that this was more about ego than strategy. “Destacking” tariffs and offering credits is just a convoluted walk-back of a self-inflicted economic wound. Tariffs aren’t tools of growth. For the umpteenth time, they’re taxes on consumers and chaos for manufacturers. And you can’t offset a policy failure with half-measures and still call it strength. It’s just damage control. End of BS.
