When Southwest announced an Honor Flight with 53 American veterans was pulling up to Gate 17, the whole damn terminal showed up to give them the hero's welcome they earned decades ago. You’ve got Vietnam warriors rolling in wheelchairs, walking with pride, eyes lighting up as regular Americans: moms, dads, kids, travelers stand up and clap like their lives depend on it. Salutes. Smiles. Pure respect. This right here? This is the America I know and love. Not the nonsense you see on the news every day. This is us at our best, remembering who kept us free. Now, 80+ years later, they’re still here, still sharp, still smiling, still holding those little American flags with the same hands that once carried rifles for this country. The respect in that airport hallway says everything. Pilots, staff, strangers — everyone stops and recognizes what these men represent. This is living history. This is the Greatest Generation. These are the men who saved the world when the world needed saving most. To Billy and Don: Thank you doesn’t feel big enough. Your courage at 19 made our freedom possible at 100+. It was like a revival for those of us who still believe in an America that promises dignity and opportunity for all. If you missed Michelle Obama’s speech there yesterday, go watch it. There's an America most of us were taught to believe in. It’s one where everybody counts, everybody matters and everybody has a shot — if they work hard. Michelle Obama may be the best spokesperson for the America most of us still hope for. She raised a family under one of the most intense spotlights in the world. She has been an incredible mother and an incredible partner. She's a leader in her own right. Barack Obama is the best communicator of his generation. If you attack a federal officer, if you put a federal officer's life in danger, if you throw objects at them that could possibly cause extreme or serious bodily harm to them, they should have every right to pull out their rifle and light you up. And light up anybody besides you that's engaging in that behavior This is absurd. They wouldn't be there if people weren't breaking the law. Follow the law. It's very simple. When agents go somewhere, they go there because laws are being broken.
