In other words, if you’re born in the United States, you’re automatically an American citizen. This and birth tourism from developed countries like China have become one of the biggest magnets for illegal immigration. I have introduced legislation to end birthright citizenship, and I am now working on a constitutional amendment to end the practice. I believe legal immigration is important to our economy and future. However, birthright citizenship and birth tourism are strong magnets for illegal immigration and cheapen American citizenship. I look forward to working with President Trump to go beyond his executive order and end this disastrous policy once and for all.

The 14th Amendment was written to guarantee citizenship for families like mine. My great-great-grandfather was born into slavery. It was never intended to reward illegal immigration. Citizenship is one of the greatest privileges in the world. It should be earned, respected, and protected, NOT exploited through loopholes. The rule of law MATTERS. Our borders MATTER.
