A very good start - Romania began to protect itself. Perhaps Poland will follow suit.

BIG | 🇺🇦👊🇷🇺✈️‼️‼️ Ukraine is now formally pushing for Russia’s airspace to be effectively closed to international civilian aviation, escalating Kyiv’s effort to turn the growing drone threat over Russia into a global aviation-security issue. Ukraine’s infrastructure minister, Mykola Kalashnyk, has appealed directly to ICAO President Juan Carlos Salazar, asking the organization to recommend that governments and airlines stop operating flights over Russian territory. Kyiv argues that the growing number of drones in Russian airspace is creating unacceptable risks for civilian aircraft. As a key precedent, Ukraine points to the December 2024 Azerbaijan Airlines crash, in which 38 people were killed after the aircraft diverted from Grozny and crashed in Kazakhstan. Putin later acknowledged that Russian air defenses were engaging Ukrainian drones near Grozny at the time and that two Russian anti-aircraft missiles exploded near the airliner. The strategic effect could be enormous if ICAO or major governments begin backing the proposal. Russia would face not only repeated airport disruptions from Ukrainian drone operations, but potentially a broader collapse in confidence among airlines and insurers. Kyiv is effectively trying to transform Russia’s increasingly contested airspace into an international liability, adding economic and logistical pressure without targeting civilian aviation itself.
