Operating under the guidance of Health Minister U.T. Khader, thirty teams of Food Safety Officers carried out surprise inspections across all #GBA zones in Bengaluru Urban District. The drive was aimed at enforcing the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and related licensing rules. Officials reported widespread contamination and unsafe storage practices. Fungal vegetables and expired dairy, bakery items, chicken, fish and meat were found in several kitchens. Inspections also revealed improper segregation of vegetarian and non‑vegetarian food, misbranding of products, and non‑compliance with #FSSAI labeling norms. Many kitchens were unhygienic, with poorly maintained storage areas that posed serious risks to public health. AMC’s Food Department conducted an inspection at the St. Xavier’s Loyola School Campus canteen, near Vijay Cross Road, Naranpura, under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The inspection found that the canteen was operating without an FSSAI licence/registration. Non-compliance with prescribed food hygiene requirements was also observed, including absence of caps, aprons and gloves for food handlers, unclean conditions in the freezer, mould growth on vegetables and use of food items beyond their expiry date. In view of these food safety and hygiene violations, the canteen was sealed.
