The German Chancellor confirmed this evening that Germany has submitted a formal request to the United Nations to trigger the snapback mechanism against Iran on July 15, just two days from now. The snapback mechanism is a tool included in a UN Security Council resolution that allows any of the countries that signed the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) to automatically reinstate all international sanctions that were lifted under the agreement, in the event of a serious violation by Iran. If the request is approved (and there’s no reason it wouldn’t be), all relief granted to Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal will be revoked.
