Here's Moscow's read-out: YURI USHAKOV (my translation): "Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin discussed a number of extremely important issues related to current developments in the international situation. Naturally, the focus was on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and on the ongoing trilateral negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine being conducted with the participation of US representatives. "I should say right away that the conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive in nature, as is usually the case in dialogue between the Russian and American leaders. "They had not spoken by phone for quite some time, the last conversation took place at the end of December. Today’s call lasted about an hour. The US president noted that, as had been agreed earlier, such communication should of course take place on a regular basis. Both leaders said they were ready for that. "The Russian president expressed a number of ideas aimed at achieving a prompt political and diplomatic resolution of the Iranian conflict, including taking into account the contacts he has held with the leaders of the Gulf states, with the president of Iran, and with leaders of several other countries. "For his part, President Trump gave his assessment of the situation in the context of the ongoing US operation. There was, I think, a very substantive and useful exchange of views on this matter.
