When a person sacrifices their life, it shows the unbearable pain they could no longer endure. Matt Nelson couldn’t remain silent in the face of what was happening in Gaza and the suffering of the Palestinian people. In a world that leaves people feeling this hopeless, silence can sometimes be the greatest crime. A man who gave his life to make his voice heard deserves to be listened to by all of us. Nelson’s sacrifice reminds us of the overwhelming silence surrounding the injustice in the world. His family donated his organs, allowing his humanity to live on in others; his life will continue through those he helped. The cry for peace and justice should be heard from everyone who raises their voice. It is our responsibility to remember Matt Nelson and work towards the peace he longed for.
