The 4-month old Akita puppy named Xero was sitting in his owners Tesla in a Las Vegas parking lot when an unknown thief smashed the Tesla’s windows and took the puppy. This incident took place soon after I reported on Lemon, another dog that was stolen from a Tesla in a smash-and-grab dog theft during the infamous Tesla Takedown protests. Are dog owners who drive Teslas being targeted? Why are so many pets being stolen from Teslas? Xero’s owner, Maggie, is begging anyone with information to come forward so her puppy can be found. Tonight, Rachel Maddow led her show with a hit piece against the Cybertruck & Elon, suggesting the proposed $400M for armored Teslas was an example of "self-dealing." Yet she conveniently left out that the procurement list was revised in Dec 2024, when Biden was President. The Tesla line item was last modified on December 13, 2024. Unfortunately, because Rachel entirely left out this important context, many of her 1.7 million nightly viewers will believe her misleading narrative. SpaceX wins their government contracts because they offer the lowest price and execute. It’s not a bad thing to serve the U.S. government with great capability and products at a low price relative to the competition. Tesla is the most American-made auto manufacturer in the U.S. Every Tesla sold in America is built in America. When you buy a Tesla, you are supporting American industry. Teslas have a lower cost of ownership compared to ICE cars. The government would likely save money buying armored Teslas instead of armored ICE cars, based on what we’ve seen with long local law enforcement trials.

Generally there's an opportunity for new companies when there's a significant technology discontinuity. Some sort of step change in technology is what opens up an opportunity for a startup. Certainly the world didn't need another car company that made gasoline cars. There are plenty of those. But no one was doing electric cars. The reason we started Tesla and put all the effort into it was not because we thought there was this huge opportunity in electric vehicles, but actually because no one was doing electric. Everyone thought it was stupid. And the big companies thought it was dumb, and there weren't really any startups doing it.
