Watching Anduril closely — excited about the IPO. Fascinating to watch Palmer and Anduril’s evolution. Their first-principles approach to finding the lowest-cost path to a working system marks them apart from competitors in this space. Can’t wait to see what else this villain cooks up — from saving lives of US military to fighting forest fires.

@xprize Wasn’t it a problem in California that fires were extinguished too quickly which ended up building up fuel to levels that enabled more catastrophic fires from time to time?

@xprize I have long thought that Anduril’s sentinel and networking systems would be well-suited to wildfire monitoring (and certain wildlife abatement issues).

@xprize About time we started fighting fires with upgraded technology. Stopping them before they get out of control seems like a no-brainer.

Palmer spent last year making “Anduril has never sold anything to Israel” a talking point. Then he flew to Israel, met Netanyahu and ten defense startups, and by June Anduril’s CEO was back pitching the Ministry of Defense. An Israeli official summarized the mission rather efficiently: “All they’re interested in in Israel is to sell here — and a lot.” And now they finally have the clean autonomy win: wildfire. Which is almost too perfect. Fire doesn’t jam GPS, spoof your sensors, shoot down your drones, hide among civilians, manipulate your ISR picture, or adapt after watching your kill chain. XPRIZE gave Anduril first place plus the Lockheed detection bonus, $2.2M total, for connecting cameras, sensors and drones into a detection-to-suppression loop against controlled incipient fires in Alaska. Turns out Lattice absolutely cooks when the adversary is thermodynamics. Congratulations to the future of warfare on discovering it built a really good autonomous fire department.

@xprize Have you considered how to detect healthy wildfires vs unhealthy? For example, when I visited Teton, Yellowstone, and glacier, I remember hearing about how wildfires were important for lifecycles of the plant life. Specifically huckleberry is awesome and needs wildfires to grow

@xprize By the time a satellite sensor like VIIRS detects a fire, it's already at least 375 square meters, which is too big to be suppressed by a drone.
