Indian Army for India’s First Villages: Bringing Connectivity & Hope to Remote Areas The border areas and remote villages in Ladakh were devoid of 4G mobile connectivity until Jun 24. This was depriving the local communities from being connected to the digital revolution in the nation. The Indian Army in collaboration with Bharti Airtel set out to ensure connectivity in these First Villages of India. Fire and Fury Corps proactively engaged all the telecom service providers and assisted them in installation of mobile towers in theses remote areas. Fighting against the harsh weather including sub- zero temperatures, a total of 42 Airtel 4G mobile towers have been installed in 5 months covering the remote locations of Kargil, Siachen, Demchok, DBO and Galwan providing much needed connectivity to the populace as well as soldiers serving in Ladakh. This initiative will boost tourism in the state and help the local community by improving access to online education, remote healthcare and fostering economic opportunities through government schemes bridging the existing digital divide. In a major boost to last-mile connectivity, especially in border areas, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji laid the foundation stone for the Rafiabad–Kupwara road widening on NH-701 and the Shopian bypass on NH-444, worth over ₹1,952 crore, in Katra, Jammu & Kashmir. He also inaugurated 2 major flyover projects—one at Sangrama Junction on National Highway-1 in Srinagar, and another at Bemina Junction on National Highway-44—designed to significantly alleviate traffic bottlenecks and enhance vehicular movement across the region. This potentially enables education and opportunity to reach literally the entire earth. I think for a portion of the world's population, especially the most poor, Starlink has potentially to radically make a difference. Lots of things to be optimistic about the future. This is one of them.
