The question now is simple: will we act, within international law, to defend it if necessary? There seems to be some confusion on the Labour Government backbenches that somehow the Government has kept Britain out of this war. The truth is we are not out of it. Our bases are already in the firing line. Our allies are already in the firing line. Britain cannot pretend we are somehow separate from the risks that come with defending international security. When the Chancellor earlier today spoke about the importance of the Straits of Hormuz, and the necessity of taking action where appropriate, does that mean the UK will, and under international law can, take action if Iranian threats against tankers and shipping in the Straits of Hormuz continue?
