In Finland, with the Soviets now invading the country, Captain Aarne Juutilainen was one such man. His first taste of war was at the age of 14 during the Finnish Civil War of 1918 when they finally kicked the Russians out and became a sovereign state. In 1930 he joined the French Foreign Legion, seeing action against Berber rebels and earning the nickname, "The Terror of Morocco". In the Winter War of November 1939 to March 1940 he was a company commander with the Jalkaväkirykmentti 34 (Inf Rgt 34) and inflicted heavy losses against the invaders, notably at the Battle of Kollaa north of Lake Lagoda, and was the commander of the most famous sniper, Simo Häyhä. He would later see action in the Continuation War. He struggled with peacetime and succumbed to alcoholism in 1976.
