How about the Americans. How do they call it

By 1846, people in England were using "copper" to describe a police officer. By 1859, the term "copper" was being shortened to "cop." The verb "to cop" dates back hundreds of years in British slang, and it is derived from Old French and Latin roots (capere) meaning to capture. In Britain to this day, "to cop" means catch/seize/capture. I'm guessing Americans started using "cop" in this way later than the British but I don't know for sure. Holiday is still called holiday. Vacation is a trip people typically take on the holidays but not always on a holiday. Police and cop are interchangeable in America. Taxi or cab is a bit interchangeable meaning we use either or.

Older generation of colonized indians use British words, newer generation of imitator indians use American words.😅

Who has noticed this, Ghanaians use to speak British English but these days we have adopted the American English.

Film doesn't really mean movie because a TV Show is still a Film. Movies are films but of a specific longform and non-serialized format.

We say police, taxi, sofa, film, and holiday. Also, sofa and couch are two different things.

These terms have also been imported in Japan and are pronounced using Katakana. the meaning in Japanese is also slightly off. 😅
