@BrittanyFerries Brittany Ferries made the decision in the 90s to stop transporting farms animals from the UK because of the cruelty and suffering involved. I guess they just don't care about Irish animals... Live export from the UK has been banned but not from Ireland.

I don't know what that has got to do with the export of unweaned calves, but we don't agree with non stun slaughter, including the CO2 gassing of pigs, but have no campaign currently. Our focus is factory farming and live export.

📢 Volume up! This truck full of unweaned calves was seen heading to Rosslare Europort this afternoon, over 4 hours before the ferry departure time. They are bawling their heads off, already hungry and stressed. They will have been fed in the morning but it will be at least another 24 hours before they get another feed, if the ferry leaves on time. You can see some calves have weepy eyes and one has signs of diarrhea. Two recent studies have shown that the fitness for transport checks conducted by DAFM vets are wholly inadequate, with large numbers of calves found to have lung damage before, during and after transport. These journeys breach legislation and cause immense harm and suffering 🐮 Brittany Ferries #StopLiveExport

It was flawed from the outset and Ministers now admit it may need major changes, yet they ask the House to agree to carry it over and vote without seeing what those changes will be. Carry-over is meant for settled legislation, not for something this contentious and uncertain. From the beginning, we warned that veterans would still face vexatious pursuit through the courts. We were dismissed. Now, at the last moment, the Government appears to concede that those warnings were justified. I served in Northern Ireland and lost a close friend, Robert Nairac. I want truth, but this Bill will not deliver it. Nor will dragging veterans repeatedly through the courts. There are also serious unanswered questions about the role of the Irish Government and the information still withheld. Where is the transparency and where is the accountability? The Government has handled this poorly from start to finish and now asks us to trust that it will somehow be fixed later. We should not accept that. This is bad legislation, badly handled, and it is time to reject it.
