Honestly I do everything in my power to avoid these type of mechanics from touching my cars.. they are very nonchalant about everything. They will loose 6 bolts and put only 4 back.. if you tell them, they will tell you nothing will happen to it.. Some unexplained accidents you see on our roads are caused by these nonchalant ones.

I'm sure he's not aware and that's why it's important to have a mechanic that pay attention to details. First thing he should have done is to clean the whole surface so that nothing will go into the tank but accumulation of dirt like this will always affect the pump.
