Context/Details: March 7, 2022, Arkansas. Joel Sanchez Delgado, a 41-year-old inmate, executed an escape from the Pulaski County Courthouse in Little Rock. He was being transported to the courthouse for a routine appearance related to drug-trafficking charges in a wheelchair due to a feigned injury. Delgado took advantage of a moment of inattention to jump out of the wheelchair and sprint away, quickly hailing a nearby cab to flee the scene. The escape, captured on bodycam footage by the authorities, led to an extensive manhunt across the city. Delgado's freedom was short-lived, as he was apprehended the same day on West 65th Street in Little Rock. Following his capture, he claimed to be injured and was taken to a hospital for examination. After being cleared, he was returned to the Pulaski County jail. The New York Post reported that Delgado had been in jail since his arrest on February 6 at the Magnuson Inn, where he, along with a woman and two other men, were charged with burglary. He has a criminal history, including allegations of shooting his girlfriend, Teresa Ann “Peaches” Howard, in a McDonald's parking lot, which resulted in her undergoing three surgeries and spending a month in the hospital. He was also charged with first-degree domestic battery and felony drug trafficking after being found with methamphetamine. Previously, Delgado served prison time in Florida and was sentenced to four years in prison in June 2019 for theft by receiving, although he was approved for parole in October of the same year. At the time of his escape, Delgado was facing charges that included possession of a firearm by certain persons, obstructing governmental operation, possession of instruments of a crime, theft of services, failure to appear, residential burglary, and a felony warrant issued by the North Little Rock Police Department, according to an online roster for the Pulaski County jail.
