This is what I hate about the last season of Samurai Jack. I think some people (including the creator somehow, absolute genius but did he develop dementia?) don’t actually get the point of the show. It’s a metaphor for letting go of the past and noble self sacrifice. He’s not ACTUALLY supposed to go back to the past, he’s supposed to be like an archetypal Jesus style savior character, where he sacrifices what he wants for the greater good / give kindness to others. He is the ultimate archetype of nobility and virtue that young men should aspire to emulate. Genius.

Hang on, younger me remembers Jack saying "I wish YOU were free" instead of "I wish WE were free" because the Fairy's magic wasn't strong enough to break the spell for both of them. This was one of those non Canon episodes, like the one where Jack's eaten by the whale, right?

No matter what, Jack always does the right thing. He can always try to find another way to return home, but helping others always takes priority.
