Gary Patterson is back stalking a sideline. What does that mean? Classic 4-2-5 Quarters structures. The Trojans' game against San Jose St. gave us an excellent look at Patterson's defensive philosophy against a true Spread offense. Against a "Quads" alignment and backed up, USC "shoved" the coverage and gave a clinic look at "Solo" (poach) coverage. The Spartans attack with a Slot Fade, giving us a look at how the Weak Safety mechanics function. Solo is an "active" poach, and the Safety works quickly to the #3 WR. Once the receiver converts to a speed out, the WS climbs to close the post. Learn more about standard Quarters structures vs. Trips, including Solo, on MatchQuarters: --

destroys the quarters look (poach?) with the outside leverage slot. Safety gets occupied by Toney at #3 spot. Maybe knew they had a nub check to take advantage of.

One of the toughest covers for a corner in football is the opposite hash post vs quarters. Coaches, how do you protect your corners from this disaster?

ho ho. Jumbo play-action on first and 10. Jaymo on the big post. MOF safety stays low and backside CB drives with the over. Gotta uncork this one.

TRENDING: The Denver #Broncos cheerleaders have gone viral for celebrating in the locker room after their playoff win over Buffalo. 🤣🤣🤣 One hell of a post-game party.

Seahawks Cover 6 vs. the Patriots. The Quarters Safety is playing vision, back to the passing strength. Cover 2 safety is high, allowing him to sling to the post to make the interception. Elite play by Coby Bryant (8). --
