I was following behind a guy the other day that had this start to happen and as soon as it started he ripped the throttle and pulled a wheelie to get it to stop. I assume that's not realistic for most people.

It would have a factory stabilizer. That was something in the front end assembly that has failed or was improperly maintained. On the other hand, I’m sure he changed his shorts when he got home.

PSA: A death grip on your handlebars, will make this worse. Every twitch in your muscles is translated as a steering input into the bike. Instead keep light pressure on the bars and squeeze the bike with your knees...so remember... light on the controls, tight on the tank. It will save your life.

Ahh the infamous tank slap. I have personally experienced this. Slowly roll off the throttle, engaging the clutch or quickly throttling down usually won't end well. Then go get your bike checked out, there is something very wrong.
