The sequencing from “Like Him” to “Balloon” is so powerful, and a perfect of example of why ALBUMS are important. After the emotional intensity of confronting his feelings about his father and his mother asking for forgiveness, all that weight is lifted off his shoulders, leading to the lightness of “Balloon.” Those opening chords feel that much warmer, in the same way laughter feels after a good cry. Incredibly cathartic, and perfect example of how sequencing absolutely affects your emotional experience of individual songs.
