One of them is the red lighting installed across different parts of Seoul, but it has sparked controversy ahead of the upcoming local elections. Major landmarks throughout the city, such as Namsan Tower, Seoul City Hall, Cheonggyecheon, and Sebitseom, are glowing red. This red lighting was prepared by the Seoul government to welcome BTS’s comeback. Starting tomorrow, it will be visible at night across 15 landmarks in Seoul for two days. However, fans are somewhat puzzled. In the past, such as during the Las Vegas concerts four years ago, and during BTS’s 10th anniversary celebrations, the color used to light up cities was purple, which symbolizes BTS. With the sudden appearance of red, some complaints have emerged suggesting that, ahead of the June local elections, it might symbolize a particular political party. In response, the Seoul government explained that the decision was made at the request of the organizer, HYBE. HYBE also stated that the color was simply chosen to reflect the key color of BTS’s new album Arirang, and asked the public not to interpret a cultural event with excessive political meaning.
