These three IIT Madras scientists are insane. Their startup Sthyr Energy is literally turning electricity into metal. Which you can keep for months and turn it back into electricity when you need it. And this is incredibly huge. Let's break this down. Right now, India alone generates enough renewable energy to power countries like France. But we can either use it as soon as its generated or its lost forever. Because no one has figured out a way to store electricity for more than a few hours at scale. If Sthyr's solution works - we won't just be able to store it for years but we could also transport it on roads - without creating any new infrastructure. And it would change how the world uses electricity forever.

… outside the window, there is winter and war. At night, temperatures in many Ukrainian cities drop to -19°C (approximately -2.2°F). Many homes remain without electricity or heating. People wear layers of warm clothes indoors and place firebricks on gas stoves, trying any way they can to heat their apartments. It is just as hard for animals; even for them, enduring the constant cold is a struggle. It is a relief when an apartment has gas, but many high-rise buildings don’t even have that. This winter has proven to be much colder and more difficult than expected, and as it turns out, we were completely unprepared for it. The state of Ukraine’s energy grid is critical. Today, due to russian strikes, Kyiv and seven other regions are without power. In the capital, some buildings are still without heat. In Zaporizhzhia, over 30,000 people have been left without electricity. The current attacks on urban infrastructure pose a real threat to human life. The russians are using the severe cold as yet another psychological weapon against Ukrainians! In Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema took MPs to “SEE” for themselves… Both govts are not THINKING OF SOLUTIONS, just “WAITING FOR THE RAIN.” Zimbabwe has LOTS OF COAL, so much coal that the country can go for 300 years using coal to generate MORE THAN ENOUGH electricity. It’s just lack of political will…. The average African politician doesn’t understand the importance of having electricity… they don’t understand that it is the advent of electricity that drove Western nations into BIG WEALTH & POWER… without enough electricity, African countries will remain economic DWARFS… By now, we should have seen SADC countries working together to increase electricity generation… Some in Zimbabwe are busy chanting silly slogans yet loadshedding is wreaking havoc…. I don’t have a problem with President President of Zimbabwe ruling even until 2050 IF HE IS DELIVERING! IF HE IS SOLVING PROBLEMS faced by ordinary people. The heating situation in Kyiv is critical - 4,200 apartment buildings are currently without heating, and it will take weeks to restore heating in some of them. That is, provided there are no new strikes. Kyivvodokanal reported that the capital's water supply has been fully restored. At the same time, water is supplied to the upper floors of high-rises by separate booster pumps, which do not work without electricity, so there may be no water there if there is no electricity. I don't think how much intelligence we can unlock with just the sun's energy. The outcomes are COUNTLESS! Elon: "You can certainly imagine a situation where we let's say a million times more energy is harnessed [from the sun] than all of Earth's current electricity usage. That would still only be roughly a millionth of the sun's energy output." "Essentially, if you increase the economy by a factor of a million, it's still 1 millionth only of the sun's energy harnessed. What does an economy or an intelligence using a million times more electricity than all of Earth's civilization think about, look like, or do? It's going to be something pretty magnificent."
