Monica Hunter barely survived the "Grim Sleeper." She was just trying to get to a party. She accepted a ride from a stranger in a yellow Pinto. Within seconds he hit a corner at full speed, pulled out a screwdriver and told her to get out and get naked. She was praying he would just r*pe her and let her go. He was already digging through his trunk for something worse. That stranger was Lonnie Franklin Jr. A garbage truck driver and churchgoer who spent 25 years hunting Black women across South LA, killing them and collecting nearly 1,000 photographs and hundreds of hours of video of his victims like trophies. His murders went silent for 14 years before starting again. Monica had been minutes away from becoming one of those photographs. In the video below, Monica tells her story for the first time - and describes the exact moment she realized what she had survived. A man walking down the street made noise at exactly the right moment. Franklin dropped the screwdriver. Monica ran half dressed and screaming until she made it home. Police told her: that was the Grim Sleeper. The man killing Black women across South LA for two decades. When they raided his house they found nearly 1,000 photographs and hundreds of hours of video footage. Many of the women were naked. They released 180 images to the public just to find out who these women were and whether any of them were still alive. Monica never told anyone about that night. Not for years. She kept it inside while Franklin kept killing. When she finally saw him on TV after his arrest she just looked at the screen and said: he's in God's hands now. She said she could have been found behind the welfare office in 1986. Just blood on the ground next to the trash bins. God wasn't ready for her. Was Monica lucky, or did one stranger walking down a street at the right moment change everything?
