Bait and switch is the U.S. strategy.

The objective for China isn't making money. It is de-industrializing its enemies. They don't want to make money. They want to put you out of business. This is a concept that completely brain breaks many people that think in terms of economic maximization and liberalization. For them, its all about improving some idealized efficiency in the market. People that do X or Y better should do it. And then trade with other people that do M and Z better... and through that mutual commerce everyone profits. That's lovely but it lives within a context of good will. Its the same kind of mentality that doesn't understand why a terrorist would take control of an airplane and then crash the airplane into a building. Because after all, then the terrorist dies as well? And further what is the utility of just killing a shit load of people? How does that improve the terrorist's life even if he does survive? That way of looking at the world is in a sense autistic. It doesn't get it. It doesn't understand. It sees the world a certain way and doesn't understand there are wider more complex systems and that people can have totally different objectives that are indifferent to their models. China's behavior is the same. They don't care about utility or market maximization or profits etc except as a MEANS to an end. And the people that don't get this only think in terms of getting more money or wealth or something as the end. China doesn't care about that. China wants to destroy you. Not to make money. Not to have utility. To destroy you. We hoped that if we opened our markets and helped them they'd change their attitudes. Complete failure. And the consequences of that failure will be something we have to deal with for decades... took us 60 years to break the soviets. And the CCP... only God knows. We will be old men or dead in the ground before this is done.
