Watch Spot crouch, jump, climb boxes and leap across gaps, controlled by a neural network trained with reinforcement learning (RL) and multi-expert distillation. Multiple expert policies were trained and distilled together into a single policy that was fine tuned to improve performance over diverse terrains. This work was inspired by ANYmal’s parkour capabilities. The neural network processes depth data from Spot's sensors to construct an understanding of the environment.

Every scientific dataset, every piece of research sitting in a university, every sensor reading off every John Deere tractor in a field. All of it feeds the machine, and almost none of it is visible to us. What comes out is an agentic economy running at machine speed. You plug your data into a vault, and agents monetise it on your behalf, trading with other agents in real time, in a marketplace we never see. The company sitting on proprietary data becomes part of it without even knowing. This is what the Economic Singularity actually looks like from the inside. It’s long been a dream of roboticists to be able to teach a robot in simulation so as to skip the long and expensive process of collecting large amounts of real-world training data. However, building simulations for robot tasks is extremely hard. Ideally, we could go from real data to a useful simulation. This is exactly what Guangqi Jiang and his co-authors do. they use 3d Gaussian splatting to reconstructed scenes which let them create interactive environments that, when combined with a physcs engine, allow for training robot policies that show zero-shot sim-to-real transfer (i.e., using no real-world demonstrations). A new 30-minute presentation from Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s VP of AI, has been released, where he talks about FSD, AI and the team’s latest progress. Highlight from the presentation: • Tesla's vehicle fleet can provide 500 years of driving data every single day. Curse of Dimensionality: • 8 cameras at high frame rate = billions of tokens per 30 seconds of driving context. • Tesla must compress and extract the right correlations between sensory input and control actions. Data Advantage: • Tesla has access to a “Niagara Falls of data” — hundreds of years’ worth of collective fleet driving. • Uses smart data triggers to capture rare corner cases (e.g., complex intersections, unpredictable behavior). Quality and Efficiency: • Extracts only the essential data needed to train models efficiently. Debugging and Interpretability: • Even though the system is end-to-end, Tesla can still prompt the model to output interpretable data: 3D occupancy, road boundaries, objects, signs, traffic lights, etc. • Natural language querying: ask the model why it made a certain decision. • These auxiliary predictions don’t drive the car but help engineers debug and ensure safety. A new 30-minute presentation from Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s VP of AI, has been released, where he talks about FSD, AI and the team’s latest progress. Highlight from the presentation: • Tesla's vehicle fleet can provide 500 years of driving data every single day. Curse of Dimensionality: • 8 cameras at high frame rate = billions of tokens per 30 seconds of driving context. • Tesla must compress and extract the right correlations between sensory input and control actions. Data Advantage: • Tesla has access to a “Niagara Falls of data” — hundreds of years’ worth of collective fleet driving. • Uses smart data triggers to capture rare corner cases (e.g., complex intersections, unpredictable behavior). Quality and Efficiency: • Extracts only the essential data needed to train models efficiently. Debugging and Interpretability: • Even though the system is end-to-end, Tesla can still prompt the model to output interpretable data: 3D occupancy, road boundaries, objects, signs, traffic lights, etc. • Natural language querying: ask the model why it made a certain decision. • These auxiliary predictions don’t drive the car but help engineers debug and ensure safety. Most people think Rerun is a visualization tool. In reality, it's a database masquerading as a visualizer. I wanted to showcase this functionality by building a full data pipeline consisting of: ingestion → baseline method → eval → finetuning for SLAM on egocentric data. I'll eventually extend this to the rest of my ego/exo datasets, but I wanted to start with a smaller bunch of datasets first. Rerun allows you to expose your saved .rrd files to a catalog where you store datasets. You can query, filter, and join them like any database using DataFusion under the hood. These are the same .rrd files that are automatically generated whenever you visualize anything in Rerun and decide to save it to disk. I brought in 109 VSLAM-LAB sequences across 14 datasets into the Rerun catalog as an example. These include 7Scenes, Euroc, eth3d, and others. Now I can query them with segment_table, filter_segments, and filter_contents instead of parsing CSVs and YAML files. With a strong set of ground-truth datasets for SLAM, baseline additions become nearly automatic with agents like Opus/Codex. This unification of data and visualization is imo the largest missing part for Physical AI. Visualization becomes a natural byproduct of having your data properly structured and queryable. The catalog API is what makes it a database, not just a viewer. I initially focused on VSLAM-LAB data, but I'll migrate all the egoexo data to this format in the coming days to really show just how useful this is.
