The Rehbinder effect is a phenomenon in physics that reduces the hardness and ductility of a material by a surfactant film. When a ceramic cup is submerged in water, the water acts as a surfactant and weakens the bonds between the atoms on the surface of the cup. This makes it easier to pierce the cup with a nail without breaking it.

Whoahhh! I’m not an expert but this looks like liquefaction 👀 This was during the M7.8 earthquake in the Philippines last week. The ground is basically losing strength beneath the surface, usually in water-saturated soil, so it can start behaving less like solid ground and more like a thick, shifting slurry. Roads and pavements can crack, sink or tilt as if they’re floating on something unstable, and you sometimes get water and sand pushing up through the surface. It can look like the ground is moving in waves or “sailing”, but what’s actually happening is the soil structure collapsing temporarily under the shaking.

Warmth by burning wood is the ultimate fuel source. It’s not because it’s the most efficient. It’s not because it’s the simplest or easiest. It’s because it’s the only fuel source anyone can reasonably obtain on a human-level. A single person can chop down one tree, wait for it to season, cut it into pieces and burn it WHILE simultaneously increasing the supply of that tree by planting its seeds and growing transplants. I cannot do that with any other fuel source at a reasonable scale without significant capital, technology, or labor. Wood remains the ultimate fuel source.

It’s been a year in the works! The chai-brator is still pending until we can settle on a prototype but I’m hoping the next shipment (within a month) passes the basic inspection and we can move forward. Because of its design, it’s made up of two pieces that are permanently adhered together. To make sure it stays water resistant, we need to make sure it has a very good seal. I’m still very excited about this and happy it’s off paper at least! Let’s hope for good news within the next weeks and I can provide a better update 🩷

This camera mod feels like how Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was always meant to be played. One thing that irks me about the RPG AC games is how far the camera is from your character.
