Fun fact: If the waitress understood portuguese she would have given them pao. Pao has come from portuguese. Maharashtra adopted it.

People from other countries too have a problem in India with Indian dishes. I've come across foreigners calling idlis as rice cakes, "medu vada" as doughnuts and "rasagulla" as white balls.
