Buying a PS2 26 years ago

Casually making me fuckin ancient

PS2 wasnt just compatible with PS1 games but PS1 accessories too. The PS1 pads work fine on PS2, and the PS1 memory cards were still usable for saving PS1 games. Having backwards compatibility with both software and hardware was very pro consumer and helped the PS2 be the GOAT.

This hits hard today, with Sony's announcement about ending games on disc starting in 2028. How the mighty have fallen...

Back then, it felt like almost every movie, TV show, and anime had its own game. Wow.

I remember doing exactly this. I worked as a teen and bought it with my own cash. A gamecube, and Xbox too. Had a dreamcast as well.

Back when you had a 100% complete game on disc, no DLC, no installs, no updates.

We really had no idea what we had back then...

I remember when my brother bought one, it was peak tech at the time, didnt have a dvd player, now we do, and a games console.

Ps2 was the goat. Ps4 was a smaller goat.
