C was too complex. Shell scripts weren't enough. So Guido van Rossum built the middle ground. 🐍 Here's the real reason Python exists, from the creator himself. ▶️

If you think c is too complex, you need to go into qa.

What ?C was too complex ?

Python drives me mad especially with virtualenv. Lot of headaches

Simple syntax Massive impact

And decades later, it’s still proving that simplicity scales.

Then some misguided folks put it on servers

"C was too complex. Shell scripts weren't enough." Or, maybe he didn't understand either of those enough.

Beautiful is better than ugly. Explicit is better than implicit. Simple is better than complex. Complex is better than complicated. Flat is better than nested. Sparse is better than dense. Readability counts. Special cases aren't special enough to break the rules. ...

finding simple solutions in complexity is a art. great insights ahead.

I heard something along the lines: "Python is just C framework"...

I've never been a fan of Python because of how it handles whitespace and its backward compatibility issues

C was fine by me and the man who taught it to me - Ken Thompson. Yes, in person. The Unix model was to use shell to string together small bits of C. Worked fine for decades. BTW - Python is fine too. Use it almost every day.

He developed exactly what all ai coders were best at

C was too complex? You mean 'C-ling in the deep end'? Python sneaks in like a lifeguard and says, "Let’s keep it simple, folks." Why do you think it's become the go-to? Ease of use or just a plot to take over the world? And AI/ML guys love it!

@devruso

So this is all @github has to share with the world nowadays? I’m lost. Don’t get it. Do they still have actual humans working there or dark blinken lights only?

Perl is good enough then.

"C was too complex" 😂

Let's just leave out the tiny critical detail of the real reason for it existing in the first place. Python was created for the AmoebaOS a distributed OS made by Andrew S. Tanenbaum a guy ruthless in the argument for Microkernels which is what Windows uses to this day.

"C is too complex!" "oh, just use pip" "oh, just use venv" "oh, just use conda" "oh, just use uv"

Too slow. Python is burning cpu cycles

There were definitely more options than C and shell scripts...

Ok, now Rust/Zig is simple and fast with cross-compiling capabilities, C and python can withdraw the stage of history.

If I had a time machine, I'd go back in time and break up his computer.

python just vibes with the brain like that

Wow, that amazing

Amazing thinking

And now people find even Python too complex. Real progress and innovation come from endless trying, failing and learning. It takes real serious effort and when the next thing comes suddenly the former is declared bad by the X mindless judgement crowd. Exactly the opposite behavior to the people who have and are shaping the world; with real effort.

just use powershell

What a chad, python changed everything for artificial intelligence!!

C was too complex (but fast), then created Python, which is easy (but slow). ???
