I may not be an aeronautical engineer but the flaming rear stabilizer doesn’t seem within design specs.

I wish Fat Albert stiff performed this JATO

Agree, I miss it!

JATO (jet assisted take off) is really cool to see, but the Blue Angels are probably the only one to use it anymore. It was often used when operating on the ice in Antartica and on the northern ice caps. Eight solid fuel rockets (4 per side) were used on the C-130. The main danger was having one break lose and fly through the fuselage of wing of the 130. If memory serves, the Navy lost a 130 using JATO in Greenland.

I prefer my planes to not be on fire.

All the other planes are jealous.

Retire the C-130. Buy the KC 390 or Millennium 390. Faster, bigger payload, goes farther and lower cost /hour.

pouring one out for the Darwin Award winner who stole some JATO bottles, attached them to his car, and went on one wild, fatal flight

That's got to be aftermarket.

Jato system was dangerously but when urgent issues it can use one time
