Brett Wichrowski Brett Wichrowski Acquired: 2023 13th round selection Measurables: 6’2”, 177 lbs, 21 years old Cliff Notes: The Brewers picked the Junior out of Bryant who had steadily improved over his NCAA career last year. By his junior campaign, Wichrowski posted a 4.50 ERA and 64 Ks/25 BBs in 50 innings pitched. He also has steadily added velocity in his offseasons (with Baseball Performance Center), which he showed off in the Spring Breakout series sitting 99 mph. In the Spring Breakout game he went 2 IP with zero earned & one strikeout plus in his outing in Big League Camp he went one scoreless, facing three batters with a K. His mix appears to have a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball with secondary offerings of a cutter, slider, and change-up. All look relatively effective playing off his fastballs, with the cutter jumping out of his hand and slider/change-up being effective enough off of his velocity. With his experience in NCAA baseball, the New England Collegiate Baseball League and the Cape Cod League, I would not be surprised if the Brewers start him in at least A ball. Wichrowski played three seasons at Bryant where he progressed as one would expect. His sophomore campaign was across 38 innings where he posted a 5.21 ERA, 37 Ks, and a high 30 BBs. His Junior season he demonstrated serious improvements, giving up less earned runs on average as well as upping his K rate while decreasing his BB rate. He rode that good season into being a Brewers Draft Pick. I look forward to seeing how the Brewers deploy the righty in the minors. As mentioned above, in the Spring Breakout game he was topping out at 99 mph. He uses that speed when throwing both of his fastballs, while his cutter is about 10 mph slower and effectively horizontally cuts due to his excellent extension. His slider is another nice option for glove-side movement, while he continues to work on his change up. His college walk rates/WHIP are something that are of concern, but more time in the Brewers organization should help him control his offerings better. His multiple plus offerings give Wichrowski a great chance to be an MLB contributor as long as he can improve control (which he showed in his Spring Breakout & Spring Training outings) He is definitely a guy to keep an eye on in 2024 and I could see him gaining transaction on some prospect lists. just an honest question to my boys Drew Levin and Matt Leung-Harrison if we "reset" everyones MMR to Master 0 LP how is it possible that I have a Emerald 1 Top Laner running down my game in Challenger LP range? clearly he can not possess a high MMR to be matched with me since the max MMR he could have is Master 0 LP right? and his last season rank PEAK was Diamond 4 aswell, his account is LVL 600+ too so it is safe to assume this is literally the guys main account and this is the peak of his all time performance if your answer to this is "because you (me) want low queue times so we have to give you these teammates" then I think the reset was redundant right? if the reset is not pointless and you double down on the claim that matchmaking is "fine" and that this is just normal "early split volatility" then please explain to me how this is okay in regards to competetive integrity or how this would be resolved in (for example) 5 months from now and just so you know, i am also aware that i climb and gain LP playing and winning against literal toddlers like this which basically makes my (and everyone elses) challenger rank, meaningless because we get it in a dishonest uncompetetive manner against LITERAL OBJECTIVE NOOBS AKA NOVICES AKA CASUALS below I will add a bunch of other screenshots where this has happened multiple times TODAY sometimes I won because of it, sometimes I lost either way, it is a joke and my challenger rank might aswell be purple, blue, golden, or bronze colored it makes no difference to me, try to convince me, why it does make a difference please much love from Austria

After Days of Wandering, the Blind Dog Finally Found a Lap to Rest Its Head Against 🐶❤️‍🩹 A man was walking along the road when he came across an abandoned stray dog. The dog had once had an owner, but had later been abandoned and left to wander on its own. What caught the man’s attention most was that the dog could not see. Moved by its circumstances, he decided to take it home. As soon as the dog was lifted into his arms, it did something that immediately drew attention. Instead of trying to escape from the arms of a complete stranger, it pressed its body against the man, rested its head against his chest and remained still. A dog that had spent time wandering alone was able to accept physical contact from someone it had never met before. Why could a dog that would normally need to remain alert to its surroundings show such trust so quickly? The answer may begin with the way a visually impaired dog receives information about the world around it. When vision is unavailable, dogs can still rely on their sense of smell, hearing and touch to understand their surroundings. These senses do not simply replace vision, but can become more important sources of information for navigation, recognising people and interacting with other animals. For this dog, the man could not be recognised through an image, but through a combination of different signals. His scent could indicate his presence, sounds could reveal where he was and how he was moving, while direct physical contact could provide further information about distance and bodily movement. When held in the man’s arms, the dog could also feel his body temperature, breathing and subtle movements. Its decision to rest against his chest therefore does not necessarily need to be understood simply as an attempt to seek protection. Physical contact also gave the dog an opportunity to gather more information about the person beside it while vision was unavailable. However, a single encounter is not enough to create familiarity. For a dog that has spent time wandering, what matters more is the stability of the experiences that follow. While living on the streets, the dog’s surroundings may have changed constantly. The scents, sounds, places and people it encountered would not always have been the same. Once brought into a home, those signals could begin to become more stable. Food and water might appear at familiar times, the scent of its carer would return each day, and the sounds within the house could gradually become familiar parts of its environment. For a dog that cannot see, this stability can be particularly important. It can learn to remember a space through scents, sounds, the sensation beneath its paws and the positions of objects it regularly encounters. Through repeated experiences, a place that was initially unfamiliar can gradually become an environment in which the dog knows how to find its way. Something similar happens as the dog becomes familiar with people. Someone who is initially recognised through scent, voice and physical contact can gradually become a familiar presence when those signals occur consistently in situations that do not cause distress. This is an important part of the process of adaptation. The dog does not need to immediately understand who the person in front of it is or what the new environment will be like. Through repeated experiences, it can gradually learn what tends to happen, which sounds are familiar, which scents are associated with its carer and which areas of the house it can move around with confidence. This ability to adapt can also be seen when the dog interacts with other dogs. Canine communication does not depend solely on eye contact. Scent, sound, distance and physical contact all contribute to social interaction. Therefore, even without vision, a dog can still recognise the presence of another individual and adjust its behaviour according to signals that it can hear, smell or feel. A dog approaching from nearby may be detected through its footsteps or scent before physical contact occurs. If the approach is slow and does not create a sudden reaction, the visually impaired dog has more time to recognise the individual coming towards it. Gentle touches and a consistent distance can also provide additional information that helps the dog adjust its response during the encounter. This shows that losing vision does not mean losing the ability to interact with the social environment. The dog can still recognise the individuals around it, although it may rely more heavily on other sources of information and on experience gained from previous encounters. If we want to help a visually impaired dog adapt to a new life, one of the most important things is to provide an environment that is stable and predictable. First, it is helpful to avoid frequently changing the position of important objects around the home. Food and water bowls, resting areas and places the dog regularly visits should remain in familiar positions whenever possible. When the layout changes very little, the dog can rely on memory alongside its remaining senses to develop its own way of finding its way around. Unexpected obstacles should also be minimised, particularly along routes the dog uses regularly. If furniture needs to be moved or a new object is introduced into its living space, giving the dog time to become familiar with the new arrangement can help reduce the risk of collisions. The way people approach the dog is also important. A dog that cannot see may not know that someone is approaching unless there is a familiar sound or other signal. Calling its name or making a gentle sound before touching it can therefore help the dog realise that someone is nearby rather than being startled by unexpected contact. When taking the dog outdoors, safety requires even greater attention. It cannot use vision to detect changes in its surroundings in the same way as a sighted dog, so it needs appropriate supervision and areas that suit its ability to navigate. At the same time, helping does not mean doing everything for the dog. Once it becomes familiar with its surroundings, it needs opportunities to move around, explore and remember the space in its own way. A stable environment allows it to make active use of its remaining abilities rather than becoming entirely dependent on people. This may be the most important point in the story. A visually impaired dog does not need people to replace everything it has lost. What it needs is an environment in which its remaining senses can be used effectively, important signals remain consistent and people give it enough time to learn how to live in its new surroundings. For the dog that this man brought home, the journey may have begun with something as small as resting its head against him. But for that moment to develop into a stable life, what matters is not simply one act of kindness, but also patience, consistency and an environment suited to the way the dog experiences the world.

On the way to the car, I explained that we would not attempt the orange aspic after all. Once in his car in the parking lot I asked him to wait a few moments. He asked what was wrong. I said, “just wait.” Shortly, the female came out pushing a loaded grocery cart. “Study that one and tell me what you think.” Conrad looked briefly at the woman—and then said the most remarkable thing. “Well, if you mean do I think she’s an extraterrestrial, yes,” said Conrad in a bored way. “We’ve got a lot of them here in La-La Land. ~ Viola: “There are a lot of THEM, you know, and many are bio-androids.” Shafica: “They’re dangerous, you know, and they realize that Earth psychics are their only enemies. DO NOT make any noise, and do not move unless we tell you to.” My eyeballs rolled around trying to perceive what had begun. I couldn’t see anything unusual at all, save for what appeared to be some gray fog forming up in the direction of the lake. I thought it was just morning fog coming up. This fog continued forming for about five minutes, and suddenly I saw what had “begun.” A network of purple, red, and yellow lightning bolts shot in all crazy directions through the “cloud,” and I would have jumped up if not held down. And then, there it was. Somewhat transparent at first, but in the next second, as if fading-up (like the movie term) out of nowhere, there IT WAS!—solidly visible over the lake whose reflecting waters I could now clearly see. And IT was GETTING BIGGER! IT was triangular, and its top angle sort of inverted in pulses, so that overall it appeared to be diamond shaped. At the same time, the “thing” had now increased its size to what may have been about ninety feet wide. ...but in that last moment I could see the WATER OF THE LAKE SURGING UPWARD—like a waterfall going upward, as if being sucked into the "machine!" “Well, for chrissakes! It was THIRSTY! Taking on water, obviously. Someone, somewhere needs water...so I suppose they just come and get Yeah! That’s it, supply ‘ship’ Earth! 1B Tanner Thach (UNCW Baseball) is another college bat to keep close tabs on this season. Thach was drafted by the Giants in the 18th round of the 2022 draft but decided to honor his commitment to the Seahawks. Thach made a significant impact in his first year on campus and posted a .290/.356/.544 slash line with 11 2B, 15 HR—a UNCW single-season freshman record—and 68 RBIs. He outdid himself in 2024 and hit .324/.406/.700 with 11 2B, a UNCW single-season record 27 HR and 75 RBIs in 61 games. Thach’s production didn’t end there, though, as he was named a Cape League all-star, hitting .275/.367/.493 with 6 doubles, 8 HR and 25 RBIs. Thach has a strong, physical build at 6’4” and 220-lbs. He has a crouched stance in the box with an open front side and a medium-high handset. It’s a bit of a noisy load in which he drops and drifts his hands, but Thach does possess plenty of bat speed. He has a steep, uphill swing path, and it’s a violent operation that is geared towards getting the ball up in the air and doing damage. However, it can get long at times. Thach’s carrying tool is undoubtedly his immense power. He has established a now-lengthy track record of power production with both metal and wood, and he has zero issue tapping into it on a game-to-game basis. Thach has home run power to all fields, though his highest quality of contact comes to the pull side. He gets the ball up in the air on a consistent basis, and when he catches the baseball on the sweet spot, it flies. Thach posted maximum exit velocities during the spring and summer of 113.5 mph and 103.1 mph, respectively. At the start of the summer, he would sometimes unnecessarily sell out to get to his power which caused him to top-spin line drives to the pull side, but as the season progressed he was able to break that habit. Thach has plus in-game power to all fields. The biggest key going forward for Thach is for him to continue to make enough contact to get to his power on a regular basis. His bat-to-ball skills are fringy, though he did post a 90% in-zone contact rate against all fastballs. Like a lot of hitters, the root of Thach’s contact struggles are secondary offerings. He’ll have difficulty at times picking up spin out of the hand which leads to both miss and chase. Thach will also tend to whiff and chase against heaters that are either elevated or on the outer-half of the plate. However, he does handle velocity well and last season he hit .533/.588/1.033 against all fastballs 92+. While Thach feasts on righthanded pitching, he hit just .246/.321/.551 last season against lefties. Thach’s power is tremendous, but he’ll need to add a coat or two of polish to his hit-ability as he transitions into professional baseball. First base isn’t the flashiest defensive profile, but Thach moves well around the bag and is a strong athlete at the position. He’s not afraid to range into the four-hole and he is a reassuring anchor on the right side of the infield. Thach has an advanced baseball sense, a trait that shines on a game-to-game basis. While he won’t pitch professionally, expect Thach to log some innings this spring for UNCW. His fastball tops out in the low 90s and flashes some hop in the top of the zone, but he’ll also mix in a mid-70s curveball and a low-80s changeup. The cherry on top with Thach is his makeup, both on and off the field. It’s impossible to stick a grade on it because it’s a 90 on the 20-80 scale. You can see hundreds of photos of Torres del Paine before you go and still be surprised by how much of the park has nothing to do with the famous towers. There are turquoise lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, open grasslands and lenga forests. Guanacos graze near the road. Condors ride the wind above the mountains. Depending on the hour, the Paine Massif can fill the horizon or disappear almost completely behind clouds. The three granite towers are the image everyone knows, but they’re only one part of the place. Torres del Paine National Park sits in southern Chile, where the Andes meet the Patagonian steppe. The park covers more than 227,000 hectares and has been part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1978. Glaciers carved much of what you see today, and ice still runs through the story of the landscape. People were moving through this part of Patagonia long before hikers started arriving with trekking poles and backpacks. The Aónikenk, often called Tehuelche, traveled through the region for thousands of years. Ranching came much later, and large estancias eventually spread across land that now belongs to the park. Sheep, horses and ranch workers were here before refugios and marked trails. The national park was created in 1959 and expanded in the decades that followed. You can still see bits of the ranching past in old buildings, fences and horses along the road. Most trips begin in Puerto Natales. I’d stay there the night before heading into the park rather than treating it as somewhere to sleep between a flight and a bus. The town sits on the water with mountains in the distance, and it’s a good place to have dinner, buy anything you forgot and check your gear one last time. Patagonian lamb shows up on plenty of menus, along with seafood from southern Chile. The drive north is where the trip really starts. Buildings become less frequent. The road cuts through broad stretches of grassland. Guanacos begin appearing in the fields, sometimes close enough to the road that traffic slows down for them. Then, eventually, the mountains show up in the distance. That first view is worth paying attention to. Wildlife is easier to see here than I expected. Guanacos are common. Rheas move through the open country. Foxes live in the park, and condors can sometimes be spotted circling high above the valleys. Pumas are here too, though seeing one usually takes luck, patience or a guide who knows where to look. A lot of people come specifically for the W Trek. The route connects several of the park’s best-known areas, including Base Torres, French Valley and Grey Glacier, and most hikers take about four or five days to complete it. If you like multi-day hiking, it’s an obvious way to see a large part of the park without spending your days getting in and out of a vehicle. The Base Torres hike can also be done on its own. It’s a long day. The trail climbs through the Ascencio Valley, passes through forest and ends with a steep section over rocks before you reach the glacial lake beneath the towers. On a clear day, the view at the top is exactly the one that probably made you want to come here. Of course, Patagonia may have other plans. You can leave under blue skies and arrive with the towers hidden behind cloud. An hour later they might be visible again. Weather changes quickly enough that there’s not much point obsessing over a forecast days in advance. Layers matter. So does a waterproof jacket. The wind is harder to appreciate until you experience it. Patagonia is famous for it, but “windy” doesn’t really describe those moments when a gust hits hard enough to make you adjust your footing on the trail. You’ll also notice trees that have spent their lives growing in one direction. The good news is that you don’t need to hike the W, or even spend every day on a long trail, to see Torres del Paine well. A lot of the park is accessible by road and shorter walks. Salto Grande is an easy stop. Water rushes through a narrow channel between Lake Nordenskjöld and Lake Pehoé, and from there you can continue toward viewpoints of the Cuernos del Paine. The Cuernos look very different from the towers. Their dark upper sections sit above lighter granite walls, and from some angles they’re the mountains I’d rather photograph. Lake Pehoé is close by and deserves time of its own. On the right day, the water turns an almost unreasonable shade of blue-green. The mountains rise behind it, and there are places along the road where you’ll probably pull over even though you hadn’t planned to stop. Grey Glacier is on the western side of the park. It flows down from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field into Grey Lake. Once you see it, the broad valleys and glacial lakes you’ve been passing start to make more sense. Ice shaped much of this place, and here you can still watch part of that story unfolding. There are hiking routes toward viewpoints of the glacier, and boat trips cross Grey Lake for a closer look. Depending on conditions, pieces of ice float in the water between the boat and the glacier. That part of the park feels different from the open country farther east. This is something I’d pay attention to throughout the trip. Torres del Paine changes surprisingly quickly as you move around it. The eastern side opens into Patagonian steppe. Forest becomes more common near the mountains. One lake can be deep blue, another turquoise, another gray beneath the clouds. Rivers run through valleys that seem almost empty. An hour in the car can take you through several versions of Patagonia. That’s why three full days would be my minimum even if you aren’t doing the W Trek. Four is better if the schedule allows. You could spend a day on the Base Torres hike, another around Grey Lake and the western side of the park, and another around Lake Pehoé, Salto Grande and shorter walks. The extra time gives you room to change plans when the weather turns. Where you stay makes a noticeable difference. Puerto Natales has more restaurants, hotels and services, and staying there can keep costs down. The downside is spending more time each day getting to and from the park. Staying inside or near Torres del Paine costs more, but you wake up much closer to the trails and viewpoints. If I could split the trip, I’d spend the first or last night in Puerto Natales and the rest closer to the park. Anyone hiking overnight should sort out refugios or campsites well in advance during the busy season. It’s also worth checking current trail conditions and park rules shortly before arriving, because Patagonia has a way of making plans made six months earlier feel provisional. For most first-time visitors, the warmer months are the easiest time to come. Late spring through early fall in the Southern Hemisphere brings longer daylight and better odds for hiking, although it also brings more people. “Summer” is still a relative term down here. Pack the rain jacket. By the end of a few days, the famous towers may not even be the thing you remember most clearly. It might be a line of guanacos moving across a hillside. The sound of the wind against the car. A glacier appearing across a lake. An empty stretch of road with the Paine Massif slowly getting larger in front of you. Those moments are harder to plan, which is probably why they stick. Come for Base Torres if that’s what first caught your attention. See Grey Glacier. Stop at Lake Pehoé. Hike as much as your legs and the weather allow. But don’t spend the whole trip racing from one famous view to the next. Some of my favorite stretches would probably be the drives between them: old ranch country, open steppe, guanacos scattered across the hills and mountains that keep appearing and disappearing as the clouds move through. You’ll take plenty of pictures in Torres del Paine. Every once in a while, leave the camera in the bag. Thermodynamic computing is here There is a new computing paradigm emerging from the noise, and its arrival may be as significant as the dawn of deep learning or the advent of cloud virtualization. A new company, Extropic, has just launched its first thermodynamic computer, a device they call a TSU, or Thermal Sampling Unit. While the web is already filling with deep technical dives, what’s more important for most of us is building a clear intuition for what this technology is, how it’s fundamentally different from anything that’s come before, and why it’s generating so much excitement. This isn’t just another chip; it’s a new way to think about computation itself. Seeing is Believing: Solving Puzzles in One Shot To understand what a TSU does, let’s look at two classic, notoriously difficult computer science problems: Sudoku and the Eight Queens problem. When you or I solve a Sudoku, we use a process of sequential logic, guess-and-check, and backtracking. We make an assumption, follow its logical conclusion, and if we hit a dead end, we erase and try again. A classical computer does the same, just much faster. A TSU, however, approaches this in a completely different way. Using a TSU simulator, one can “program” the problem by first clamping the known values—the clues already on the board. Then, you program in the constraints: no duplicate numbers in any row, column, or 3x3 square. With the problem thus defined, the TSU doesn’t “search” for a solution; it anneals one. In a single computational step, the solution simply emerges, backfilling all the empty squares correctly. The same principle applies to the Eight Queens problem, a challenge to place eight queens on a chessboard so that none can attack any other. This is a complex combinatorial problem with 92 distinct solutions. A classical computer would have to iteratively search for these. A TSU, by contrast, can be programmed with the constraints (the “anti-affinity” between queens on the same row, column, or diagonal) and then set to sample the “solution space.” In this context, a valid solution is one with a “problem energy” of zero. The TSU’s physical nature allows it to naturally find these zero-energy states. A simulation of this process shows the TSU discovering all 92 unique solutions, demonstrating its ability to not just find an answer, but to explore the entire landscape of all correct answers. This is a fundamentally new approach, one that bypasses the brute-force, iterative methods we’ve relied on for decades. The Physics of Computation: Using Noise, Not Fighting It This new power comes from a radical design philosophy. For the last 70 years, computing has been about one thing: order. We build chips that are deterministic, logical, and precise. The great enemy has always been noise, heat, and randomness. We spend billions on cooling and error correction to eliminate these very things. Thermodynamic computing is the polar opposite. It doesn’t fight the noise; it uses it. The TSU is built on the understanding that the natural, stochastic noise from “leaky” transistors—the very randomness we’ve tried to engineer out of existence—is itself a powerful computational resource. Think of it this way: a GPU, which is central to today’s AI, has to simulate noise. When a generative AI model creates a new image or sentence, it’s using complex algorithms to fake randomness. The TSU doesn’t need to fake it; it harnesses the actual physical randomness of thermodynamics. It is a piece of hardware that directly computes with probability. This makes it a hybrid, sitting somewhere between a purely analog computer (which might use light or sound waves to compute) and a digital GPU. It’s a physical device that leverages the laws of physics itself to find solutions, rather than just using logic gates to simulate them. From a Lost Hiker to a Million Bouncy Balls Perhaps the best way to build intuition is with a metaphor. Imagine that solving a complex optimization problem is like trying to find the lowest point of altitude in a 100-square-mile mountainous landscape. Classical computing, using an algorithm like gradient descent, is like being a single hiker dropped into this landscape at night. You have no map or satellite view. All you have is an altimeter and the sensation of the slope under your feet. You can only take one step at a time, always walking downhill, hoping you don’t get stuck in a small local valley when the true, lowest canyon is miles away. Thermodynamic computing is a completely different approach. It’s like having a million bouncy balls and a helicopter. You drop all million balls simultaneously across the entire 100-square-mile landscape. Then, you “turn on an earthquake,” shaking the entire system. The balls bounce and jostle, but as the shaking (the “annealing”) subsides, where do they all end up? They naturally settle into the lowest points. The balls that collect in the deepest valley represent the optimal solution. The TSU is, in essence, a physical device for dropping those million balls at once and letting the laws of thermodynamics find the lowest “energy” state for you, all at the same time. Beyond Puzzles: The Real-World Impact This is far more than just a clever way to solve brain teasers. This ability to instantly find the lowest energy state for a complex, constrained system has staggering real-world applications. One of the most immediate is protein folding. Companies like Google’s DeepMind have made incredible progress with AI like AlphaFold, which predicts protein structures. But this is still a predictive model trained on existing data. A TSU could potentially solve the folding problem directly, treating the protein as a system of atomic affinities and repulsions and finding its most stable, lowest-energy configuration almost instantaneously. This could revolutionize drug discovery and materials science. An even more profound possibility lies in nuclear fusion. One of the greatest engineering challenges in history is controlling the superheated plasma within a tokamak reactor. This requires shaping unimaginably complex magnetic containment fields in real-time to prevent the plasma from touching the reactor walls. This is a real-time optimization problem so complex it’s currently beyond our capabilities. A TSU, however, could be fast enough. Its ability to compute with electricity itself, rather than abstracting the problem through layers of software, might allow it to update the magnetic fields fast enough to stabilize the fusion reaction. One could even imagine a future where thermodynamic computing elements are built directly into the tokamak’s walls, allowing the reactor to physically and intelligently react to the plasma’s state in real time. A ‘GPT-2 Moment’ for a New Era It’s easy to become numb to hype, but what we are witnessing with the TSU feels different. This is what you might call a “GPT-2 moment.” For those who were there, GPT-2 was the first generative AI model that wasn’t just a toy; it was the first time you could play with it at home and see the spark of true generative intelligence. It was the precursor that pointed directly to the GPT-3 and ChatGPT revolution that has since changed the world. This TSU has that same feel. It’s the “SDK” for a new computing paradigm. This technology is as different from classical computing as quantum computing is, but with a critical difference: a team of 15 built this in two years, and it runs at room temperature on your desk. Quantum computing has seen decades of work and billions in funding, and it still hasn’t produced a commercially viable, scalable machine. The TSU is here now. Based on a two-decade-long career at the cutting edge of technology—from seeing the obvious future of virtualization in 2007 to an early conviction in deep learning and GPT—this has all the same hallmarks of a fundamental, world-changing shift. RHP Matt Scott (Stanford Baseball) is one of the premier college arms in this year's Draft. After a solid Freshman season that was split between the bullpen and the rotation, Scott this year anchored the Stanford rotation and collected a career-high 103 strikeouts against 36 walks across 80 innings. Earned a Team USA invite for the second straight summer. Scott has an XL, workhorse frame at 6-foot-7 and 247-pounds with plenty of strength and physicality throughout. Quiet, "checkpoint-like" delivery. Small side step towards 1B side, gathers himself and breaks into the rest of his operation. Attacks from a high-three quarter slot. Low effort, does a nice job of staying connected and in-sync for someone of his stature. FB sits in the 93-96 range, but will routinely touch 97/98. Tons of carry through the zone, averaged 22.5" of IVB last year. At its best when located in the top-1/2 of the zone, which is also where it generates most of its whiffs. Just needs to stay out of the middle. Threw it 62% of the time and generated a pretty impressive miss rate of 26%, though I think it can become even more effective if he's able to hone in on his command of it. 55 pitch right now, eventual 60 if some of the low hanging fruit is cleaned up. Supplements his FB with a mid-to-upper-80s gyro SL. I actually think Scott's feel for the SL is on par, if not better, than his feel for the heater. Effective against both right and lefthanded hitters. True, hard gyro look against LHH. Will flash more two-plane tilt against RHH with some sharpness to it. Another 55 pitch that last year had a 40% miss rate. Scott needs to up the usage on his split-change. Threw it just 6% of the time last year and I think it's his best secondary pitch. Legit weapon against LHH. Averaged nearly 12 MPH off his FB and he does an excellent job of killing spin on it; averaged 866 RPMs last season. Essentially falls off a table as it approaches the plate. Serious tumbling life with a bit of arm side fade. 48% miss across a limited sample in '24, I'd give it a 60. Command and control are both average, if not a tick above. Little-to-no reliever risk. Really like the body and stuff. Projects to be one of the first few college arms off the board this July and is a potential first-rounder.

We brought in a PR firm, 42 West, and we were having a meeting with staff members, bipartisan. We had Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, Rep. Tim Burchett Press Office, Rep. Eric Burlison. We had a representative from Congressman Jared Moskowitz's office. We had a number of Chiefs of Staff (top staffer for a specific member of Congress), like, present." (Don't really know why they needed a public relations firm in attendance, but if it helps them with advice on how to handle this, so be it. Just know: it appears like members of that PR firm know what Grusch said, and we don't.) Fox: "And, I can't reveal what was said. I thought it was gonna be said at the actual event that we had yesterday (June 9th) in DC with Mr. Grusch." (Don't be mad at Fox for keeping his word to Grusch and not sharing what was said in that private meeting. But I don't blame people for being annoyed that Grusch shared this information six or so weeks ago and we still don't know what he said in that room.) Fox: "Then, what Mr. Grusch revealed to all of us, what he had seen with his own eyes, left the room speechless. It drew the oxygen out of the room. I looked at everybody in that room, and their eyeballs were popping out. My jaw was on the floor. Like, I simply couldn't believe what he'd seen with his own eyes. Like, I can't wait for it to come out. "So I asked Mr. Grusch today, 'Can I talk about what I heard?' And he's like, 'No, but I will be addressing it very soon.'" (Like I said, it's almost been one month now (June 12) since Fox said this, so what does "very soon" mean? Was Grusch supposed to share this information on CNN with Jake Tapper last week but it didn't happen because that interview was, reportedly (Fox told us), postponed?) Fox: "So that's where we stand right now. But I can tell you, Mr. Grusch has seen evidence that will leave you slack-jawed when you hear it. It's coming, it's coming." (We heard that Gruch's Op/Ed was coming soon and that was 2.5 years ago. It never happened. So, I don't blame people for being skeptical about this. If Grusch hasn't told us by this time next week, I propose someone (a member of Congress) who was in that room just tell us. That's fair, right? Total transparency from our elected representatives?) ~ Fox: "Mr. Grusch is legitimately concerned about his personal safety. He's coming out with it, I promise you, this is coming out. He assured me today that he will address this issue to the general public very soon, in the near future." (I'm glad Grusch told a room full of people what he saw, as that may offer him some protection from people who allegedly want him to stop talking.) Fox: "So I can't speak to what he's gonna say, but I'm just telling you from what I heard out of his mouth, sitting in an office of a member of Congress? And everybody (Fox laughs) in the room, you could have heard a pin drop." Clayton Morris: "Could you give us a hint? Is it related to craft? Can you maybe dance around it a little bit? I want to say, 'You're killing me, Smalls (laughs).'" Fox: "Yeah, so if you can imagine, if you know about 'Moment of Contact,' that involves captured non-human intelligent beings. Think about that for a minute. Think about that case. I heard it out of his mouth, and I can tell you, I was in the room. And I looked around the room, and I'm looking at these young, like, guys in their 20s, you know, the staff guys? And their eyeballs were popping out of their head. My jaw was on the floor. I couldn't believe it." (There's a reason why I included that quote (living or deceased non-human intelligence) from the new Burlison/Carson/Crane legislation at the top of this tweet: At the very least, I'm confident Grusch told them that he saw photos of dead non-human beings. Bodies. But what about evidence of LIVING non-humans, aka aliens of unknown origin? More on that at the end. Fox: "My jaw was on the floor. I couldn't believe it." (Would Grusch saying he saw photos of craft and dead non-humans have that type of effect on Fox? Seems like that's something he would have expected to hear.) ~ Fox: "It was an [out of] body experience when I heard that. But I can tell you...the impression I got, was that he felt a little more protected to talk about this because of President Trump's directive to release the files, and that this... Again, this is my speculation, okay? This is not what Mr. Grusch said. "I got the impression that he was much more relaxed - even though he was still not fully relaxed - because of President Trump's directive to release these files. And that it was something that he had seen during his official investigations just within the last few years." (Imagine how much more relaxed Grusch (and others) would feel if we had an actual Executive Order from Trump with strong language to protect whistleblowers?) Fox: "And that it...I think it had an extremely profound impact on his life when he saw this evidence that he described. Again I'm leaving it right there. I've been talking with Republicans, and they said if Joe Rogan tweets about this, that the President will hear it, And I can't overstate the significance of that." (Why hasn't Rogan already done that? No excuse. Fox has been on Rogan and I'm sure he has Joe's contact information. Make it happen.) Fox: "We need people. We're not asking for money, we're not asking to get on your show, we're just asking, Mr. President, please, as many people as possible, release the files that should not be associated with national security. And that's the alien or non-human sentient beings. That's it." ~~~ (I'm going to speculate on what Grusch may have said in that room.) Fox: "I think it had an extremely profound impact on [Grusch's] life when he saw this evidence that he described." (Grusch has said he started out as a skeptic when he started looking into this. If he was shown what he felt were photos of non-human bodies, I think that might be enough to have an, "extremely profound impact on his life." Depending on exactly what those photos showed, of course.) In "Moment of Contact," Eric Davis had this exchange with Fox: James Fox: "Put me wherever you were when you got to see photographs of crash retrieval and documents. What did that feel like?" Dr. Eric Davis: "That was startling, when I actually see recorded evidence with my own eyes. Photographs, reports, and whatnot. That took it to a higher level, that kicked it up several notches of reality. And that made it very clear that this reality is very hard, very physical, very real. "And this type of evidence, you can't come by in the open literature, it's not public, it's classified. And I can't discuss what it was, but I can tell you, yeah, it's a crash retrieval, there's a craft, and there's alien bodies. That's all I can say about it." Fox: "You swear on your life that you saw those pictures?" Davis: "Oh, I swear on my life, and everybody's...my children's life, so (laughs). Yeah, I'm absolutely telling you the truth. I saw the evidence, and it's stark! I can't tell you the exact number, because it's classified, but I'll just say, there's a few dozen total retrievals." Full exchange with video... ~~~ As I said in my other post, I think Davis, Semivan, Puthoff, Kelleher, Grusch, Lacatski, Stratton, aka The AAWSAP Gang (I just made that up), may have seen the same evidence of photos and reports. Has Grusch seen more than that? I don't know. In 2025, Davis said this... Burlison: "Can you comment on whatever species have been piloting these craft? Are they largish? Are they multiple species? What was their size, and how many are usually on a craft?" Davis: "They're typically the multiple species people are familiar with. The Greys, the Nordics. People have talked about Reptilians and Insectoids. It's not that they're Reptilian or Insectoid, it's that they resemble, to the participant, a reptile, or insect type. A humanoid, because they have this...a hand, and four limbs, and a torso, so..." Burlison: "Large? Small?" Davis: "Human size, human scale." Burlison: "How many are in a crew?" Davis: "Well, the group, well, the Greys I'm familiar with from investigating the crash at Corona, which is misnamed the crash at Roswell. It's not the crash at Roswell, it's the crash at Corona, New Mexico. Those were Greys, those were four-foot tall. And the Nordics are typically human-sized, probably...I've heard five, six-feet tall. And same with the people who mislabel Reptilian and Insectoid. They're roughly that height, too. I haven't heard anything about anything seven or eight feet or nine-foot tall, of that nature." The credibility of that ranges on the spectrum from no credibility to high credibility. The high credibility is the classified part." Full post: My Final Thoughts (Based on everything Davis has shared, it seems he saw classified photos of what appeared to him to be non-human craft and photos that appeared to show dead non-humans (bodies) with enough detail that he could see that some resembled reptiles and others resembled insects. Were there also photos of Greys and beings that looked human (Nordic)? I don't know. These images of non-humans would fall into what Davis deemed "high credibility" and "the classified part.") Davis: "I saw the evidence, and it's stark!" (If Davis saw close-up photos that showed details of beings that looked like Reptilians and Mantids, I'd say that qualifies as stark!) Back to what Fox said... Fox: "Then, what Mr. Grusch revealed to all of us, what he had seen with his own eyes, left the room speechless. It drew the oxygen out of the room. I looked at everybody in that room, and their eyeballs were popping out. My jaw was on the floor. Like, I simply couldn't believe what he'd seen with his own eyes." (I think what caused that reaction was Grusch describing seeing close-up photos of different types of non-human beings. Maybe.) However, Fox also said this: "...if you can imagine, if you know about 'Moment of Contact,' that involves captured non-human intelligent beings (This is the Varginha, Brazil case. ~Joe). Think about that for a minute. Think about that case. I heard it out of his mouth, and I can tell you, I was in the room." (The biggest CLAIM in that film and from that case is that a live, non-human being was captured and that Dr. Italo saw video of it, and then stood next to it for a few minutes when it was in the hospital, in a bed, being cared for by another doctor. Did Grusch say he saw evidence (photos or videos) of a live being that appeared to be non-human? Joe Rogan asked him that in his November 2023 interview... Grusch: "Once you realize the phenomenon's real, then you realize we've recovered artifacts and, you know, biologics or, you know, dead pilots, if you will, even though it's kind of creepy to think about in your world view. You don't think they were ever, you know, alive sometimes, too, right? And I'll leave it at that, only because, you know, that is something the President and his cabinet need to disclose this in a controlled manner." (He was either hinting that he's seen them alive or that them being alive and on this planet is a huge deal and not his responsibility to announce. I think it's the latter.) Rogan: "Are there discussions of interactions with live beings?" Grusch: "Uhh, there was some water-cooler talk about that kind of thing." Rogan: "But that's it?" Grusch: "But, you know, I don't even wanna get into it because it's like, uh, there was some details provided to me but it's like, it's secondary and I don't know if that's like, the telephone game and I don't know if it was hyperbolized in any way...um, you know, in the break room, so to speak. So I just... I'm so anal about making sure what I say is accurate...I don't, you know, I don't know." (Based on what he said there, it seems like he has NOT seen any evidence of live beings. If he now comes out and says that he has, it will seem like a flip flop. So, I'm gonna go with Grusch said he saw photos of non-human bodies and they were of the different types/species that Dr. Eric Davis referenced. One more flashback to what Davis said in that public, congressional briefing in May of 2025.) Davis: "It's not that they're Reptilian or Insectoid, it's that they resemble, to the participant, a reptile, or insect type." (That sounds like someone who has seen exactly what they look like, via photos.) Final point... "Examine biological evidence of living or deceased non-human intelligence." ~Burlison Proposed Legislation (That language was in the original UAPD Disclosure Act co-sponsored by Senators Schumer and Rounds, and four other senators. Why put that language in there if you haven't heard credible reports of living or deceased (bodies) non-human intelligence? Are there stories of living, non-humans on this planet? Yes, and I'll leave you with one of them.) ) (Just to make it clear: I think Grusch will say that he saw clear photos of different types of non-human bodies and some looked like reptiles and others looked like insects. It would be amazing to hear Grusch say he saw video or film of living beings, but I don't expect that. However...this still bothers me... Would Grusch describing seeing photos of craft and different kinds of dead aliens leave veteran-of-the-UFO-field, James Fox, with his jaw on the floor? I guess we're gonna see. And hopefully soon.)

Pyotr Kurzin Pyotr Kurzin , host of The Global Gambit podcast, published an interesting interview with Peter Zeihan Peter Zeihan about Russia's war against Ukraine. I found it quite compelling, so I decided to share its main points: ▪️ "[Putin] has another seven million people he can mobilize if he wants to. Granted, that is the last generation of Russian men under 30. That obviously comes at a huge cost. But the Russians really have not put their shoulder into this war yet. They have tried to treat it as what they've said - a special military operation. We have not seen the full economy mobilized. We have not seen the industrial plants receive the investment necessary for a mass expansion. And we certainly haven't seen the population mobilized in a way past wars involving either the Soviets or the Russians have. We are starting to see that now. It is not risk-free. There's no guarantee they win this anymore. But to think there's going to be a political break in Russia without a significantly greater economic dislocation than we have seen so far is being over-optimistic." ▪️ "For the first time, we're actually seeing the Russians on a military economic footing. While that is, from the capitalistic point of view, wildly inefficient, that doesn't mean it can't work. It means that for the first time in 5 years, the Russians are actually fighting like this is a real war as opposed to something that's a sideshow. That does have consequences. It means we have to have, among other things, a full mobilization. But to say that that's going to break the system, I don't know if I buy that. It just puts stresses in different places." ▪️ "We have to have a much sharper break. And that means the apathy has to end. The best example I can give you is when Prigozhin led his rebellion. He marched his people 1,500 kilometers to Moscow. No regular military commanders joined him, and no regular military commanders tried to stop him. That really underlined just the huge degree of apathy in Russia, even among the security services, about what was going on. While that means it's really difficult for Putin to motivate people, it also means it's very difficult for Putin to be motivated against. Until we have a situation where we don't just have defectors on the front, but actually people shooting their commanders, I don't see Putin in significant domestic danger." ▪️ "Five years on, and Ukrainians are not simply still fighting, but they found new ways to give the Russians a bloody nose and actually change the mechanics on the ground. With the new military technology we've seen this year, that eight-to-one ratio is being achieved regularly. For the first time in this conflict, we are finally at an even fight. That doesn't mean the Ukrainians are going to win, but for the first time, they're not losing ground. And that matters immensely." ▪️ "The Ukrainians are trying to change the math of the war in a very intelligent way. The [drone] technology is innovative. Since the Ukrainians are launching hundreds of these a day, we're in a situation where the entire Russian system is running out of anti-aircraft capability. It changes the math because now the Russians have to defend every square inch and absolutely cannot. Putin has redirected air defenses to concentrate around a few specific areas, most notably Crimea and Moscow, and everything else is kind of open. What we've seen in just the last couple of weeks is that the mid-range strikes that the Ukrainians have been doing since March, basically destroying the logistical tail of the military forces within about 300 or 400 kilometers of the front, have had such an impact that the Ukrainians are actually able to go on the offensive in zones that are mined and win. For the first time, the Russians just can't get more drones, more men, more fuel, more food within the battle zone at all. And that's now affected their ability to hold the line." ▪️ "The amount of economic damage that the Ukrainians cause is really deeply immense. We've had over 140 attacks now on 'shadow fleet' tankers in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea in just the last six weeks. We are looking at the end of Russia's ability to export through the Baltic or the Black Sea. Conservatively, that's three to four million barrels a day of oil and product. They'll still be able to use, for now, their Siberian export route, but collectively, rail and pipe there is less than a third of what goes west. Long-term impact. This is the end of Russia as a significant energy exporter. Once this physical infrastructure is destroyed, the wells will be shut in, and most of them are mature wells that require foreign technology for their development. The Russians will have to re-drill them, and they can't re-drill them until such time as the sanctions are gone. The Chinese don't have the technology." ▪️ "Strategically, there is no version of an independent Ukraine that can function unless Crimea is part of Ukraine, or at least neutral, because it commands the access to the rivers that are the lifeblood of the Ukrainian economy for their exports of steel and especially grains. And if the Russians control Crimea, they basically control the north half of the Black Sea and can project power west and south very easily. But that assumes that they can resupply Crimea successfully, which is no longer for sure. With the mid-range drone strikes, it basically turned Crimea into an island that the Russians can't support, which means it turns from a springboard into a sandbag. The Ukrainians don't need to make a push in order to drain the Russians. They're just forcing the Russians to use all of their logistical capacity to try to reach someplace that they really can't defend anymore. It's a good strategy." ▪️ "For the Ukrainians to win, they don't just need to get Crimea back. They need to make sure that the Russians lose the military capacity to threaten them. And that means neutralizing or occupying the two Russian cities that are the logistic hubs that enable the war - Belgorod and Rostov-on-Don. We're nowhere close to that right now. But if those two cities are removed from the equation, it's not just that Russia loses the ability to project power west; it loses the ability to project power into the Caucasus. And then you're talking about the entire southern rim of the Russian state falling. And all of those barriers are then completely up in the air, and the Russians are too far from all of them and can't defend any of their territory. And whatever vector a future threat comes in from, the Russians just can't deal with it at all." ▪️ "At this moment, it's a question of whether or not and how soon the Russians can copy what the Ukrainians are doing with drones against two other developments. Number one, the Russians are finally putting huge investments into their ballistic missile capabilities because that's a technology that the Ukrainians have no defense for. The first large numbers of those missiles will probably come online in about six months. Reed: "And there are significant signals and indicators in the history of the phenomenon that give very good anchors for assessing intent, and for going from possibilities to probabilities and ultimately making a starting assessment, which informs the research pathway, which is the other part of my work in supporting the human institute, devising an intelligent, scientific research and investigatory citizen-led effort to uncover the phenomenon, to disclose it, to interrogate its activity, lest we just be interrogated, unknowingly, ourselves. Reed: "But, in my view, when you look at all that the sensor data has given us, technologically, when you corroborate that with the geographic, circumstantial [and] temporal aspects of how the phenomena appears, who it manifests to, and the considerable problem it presents to the international community and to national laws and frameworks that govern territorial sovereignty, these incursions into sensitive sites and the potential, programmatic engagement with civilians in the form of physical NHI-initiated contact - abductions - it builds a picture. It bounds those possibilities into a zone of probabilities. "And whether it's a transactional presence, whether it's an integrative or one that wants to integrate with humanity, or ultimately replace humanity, I think there are multiple possibilities at play and multiple intents at play. No. The hostile intent will not tolerate a beneficial actor who themselves would have to arm themselves and militarily confront the hostile actor, which we do not see indications of." (My translation: If, there's a benevolent intelligence here that wants to help humanity break free from the chains of an alleged malevolent intelligence that may be using us, the benevolent force would need to somehow arm themselves in order to militarily take on this malevolent force, potentially, defeat them, and rescue us from a bad predicament. And we see no evidence of that.) Reed: "So, you know, we have analogs in our own human history to this, the natives of the new world. They looked out on the quay and they saw the ships, different flags, different vessels, and they assumed it's gotta be either the angels from the spirit realm - it has to comport to our belief system - or a variety of intentions, and we should work with and collaborate. And it may not be that way. "It's not about, it's all hostile or it's all beneficial or benevolent. In my mind, it's exo-systemic. It's an ecosystem arriving on our shores at a specific 20th-century moment in which we have detonated nuclear weapons, we have flashed the Universe with technology capability, and we have triggered an engagement event. This is really what this is. And a program to engage humanity over a longitudinal time period." (I think it was here and intersecting with us a long time before we first detonated our nukes.) Karla Turner: "We know from some of our own research that the abduction phenomenon has affected families going back four generations and that would be around the turn of the century (1900). In my husband's family, his grandmother had an encounter with a non-human entity that led her off into a swampy area where there was a period of missing before she was returned, when she was only five-years old. That was 1903. So if you think it's new and you think it's something the media has spread, you start looking into the cases and find out how far back it's goes in some of these families' generations. I know of an African American family in East Texas that has had it going on since the early 1900s and it's still going on today with that same family. Three to four generations is fairly typical." ~ Reed: "And so, we need to step back and really look at the human project of getting our act together to diplomatically engage now and in the future, to manage the NHI presence internationally, and coordinate responses, lest we divide and conquer ourselves over this issue. And that's where the reframing of disclosure as fundamentally belonging to the human species, being one that should, I think, be framed in first principles - to Karl Nell's point - with a naturalistic framework, a science-informed, data-driven framework. "And with that, we go out into the field and collect evidence on the phenomenon. We go out to where it is interacting with people. That's the key missing data set that would be necessary to inform decision makers." (We had that with AAWSAP and can have it again. Plus, the Vallée/AAWSAP Capella database of approximately 250,000 cases. Using AI and the best human minds on this planet, all of that may inform us of the intent of these alleged NHI actors.) Reed: "In my view, there absolutely is an adversarial actor in our world. There is a human-engagement program underway. And that's not the whole story, but if that is true, that should marshal our human response above all other possibilities, initially, because we may wake up in 30 years and find that we are not the human beings we used to be. They're operating covertly and selectively with military-defense organizations, internationally, which are already in competition." (I'd like to hear more about the claim that NHI are operating covertly and selectively with military-defense organizations. We've all heard those claims but is there evidence of that?) Reed: "And that, to me, is another one of a number of alarming signals that should just command us to take a cautionary response. And and we've gotta get out there and use the best of science, research and investigation to do reconnaissance - reconnai-science, as I call it, on behalf of the human interest, and not just national interests." Garrison: "Yeah, that's a profound way to put it, Reed. You know that we've triggered an interaction event." Reed: "And so, intelligence indicates intent, intentful engagement indicates a program. And so what is their program? We talk about the Legacy-human program. What about the non-human program? We do not query that nearly as much as we should. And in my view, disclosure. How do we get disclosure moving? If we recenter the controversy not on human actors, human governments, but on the non- human presence itself, that allows the human actors a way to rapidly and catastrophically disclose their involvements, which is what is keeping this back in part. This battery is about to change the world in 3 months, or make this guy a fool | Fred Lambert, Hacker News Donut Lab lit the EV and energy storage industry on fire last week with its announcement of a 400 Wh/kg solid-state battery cell that can last for 100 years. At face value, if true, we are looking at the single most disruptive announcement in the history of the electric vehicle industry and energy storage as a whole. We aren’t just talking about a better motorcycle battery. If the claims of a 5-minute charge, 100,000-cycle life, and ~400 Wh/kg energy density are accurate and scalable, as Donut Lab claims, this is the holy grail of energy storage. Battery breakthrough announcements generally don’t catch fire like this, but Donut Lab’s did because it said that the cell was already in production and will be in a production vehicle, Verge’s electric motorcycle, this quarter. It gave credibility to the claim, pushing everyone to report on it. Now, we have interviewed Donut Lab’s CEO and investigated the technology. At this point, it looks like either this battery changes the world within the next 3 months, or it will make the CEO look like a fool. In this article, we discuss the impact of the battery, whether real or not, as well as clues about the secret sauce behind its chemistry. The Holy Grail of Energy Storage Consider the implications. A battery that lasts 100,000 cycles is effectively immortal in human terms. You could charge it every single day for 270 years, and it would still be working. It means the battery outlives the vehicle, not just once, but ten times over. It changes the economics of transportation entirely: you buy the battery once, and you swap it into your next five cars. The power density required for a 5-minute charge and the 400 Wh/kg of energy density opens the door to commercial electric aviation, a sector currently strangled by the weight and slow charging speeds of lithium-ion. It solves the grid storage problem by offering a medium that doesn’t degrade, meaning utility companies could amortize the cost over a century rather than a decade. If this is real, the internal combustion engine didn’t just die today; it was buried 100 feet deep, and every other battery is not far behind. But, and this is a massive “but”, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof, and Donut Lab has yet to release that proof. And that brings us to the man making them. The Man Betting His Reputation I spoke with Marko Lehtimäki, the CEO of Donut Lab and Chairman of Verge Motorcycles. My goal was simple: ask him about the chemistry behind his battery and, if that doesn’t work, look him in the eye and figure out if he’s selling vaporware or if he’s sitting on the breakthrough of the century. Marko isn’t a random guy shouting about a battery breakthrough that will change the world. He is a legit entrepreneur. A computer scientist who built a no-coding app builder years before “vibe coding” was even a thing and sold it to SAP. After the successful exit, he became an investor and serial entrepreneur with his biggest, or most well-known, company being Verge Motorcycles, which has real products on the road. By announcing that this “miracle battery” is already in production and will be shipping in customer vehicles within 10 weeks, he is betting his entire personal reputation on this technology. If he misses this timeline or if the specs are fake, Donut Labs and Verge Motorcycles might not survive the credibility loss. He has a lot to lose here. In my article about the battery announcement last week, I noted that Marko’s presentation was incredible. He basically described a perfect battery: record energy density, incredible charge rate, unprecedented longevity, no rare metals, a cost lower than traditional Li-ion cells, and in scalable production right now. Sounds too good to be true? The only thing he didn’t share was details about the chemistry, beyond saying it doesn’t use lithium or other rare metals. What’s the point of protecting the chemistry if the battery is already in production and it will be in a product shipped this quarter? If that’s true, the battery will be reverse-engineered before the snow completely melts. We discussed it with Marko during our interview. His logic is that once the bikes ship, competitors will tear them down and figure it out anyway. But that won’t happen for another 10 weeks or so, and the head start is critical for a technology this disruptive. In the meantime, Donut Lab’s goal with the announcement was to get the attention of OEMs and ship them battery packs for validation. Marko said: We are right now shipping demo packs to OEMs under NDAs and under tight disclosures so that they can test that all of that is true, which serves our business very well [better than disclosing the chemistry]. But these programs with OEMs are likely to take a long time before they become public. Shorter term, there’s Verge Motorcycles shipping bikes with the battery by the end of the quarter. Before that, Marko also said that we should soon see third-party testing of those cells: We rather right now ship it to authorized research and science center that tests everything without opening it and telling everybody what’s in there. In short, we should have a good idea whether the claims are true or not in just a few weeks no matter what. What does Marko, or Donut Lab, have to gain by lying about this? I also discussed this with Marko and the only thing I could come up with is if he happens to be raising capital right now, but he shut that down: There are a million investors chasing us right now, but we are literally not talking to anybody. We tell investors that we can discuss terms after we have done all our disclosures. Marko insisted that Donut Lab is not taking any investment until they have proven their cells work. In short, it’s hard to find an upside for Donut Lab in making this announcement if the claims are not true. It doesn’t mean that they are, but it makes you think. The Investigation: What Is the “Donut Battery”? So, what is the secret sauce? Marko wouldn’t say, but after digging into public records, supply chains, and research papers, I believe we have a pretty good idea. Let me preface this by saying that I’m not a chemist or physicist, but I’ve been a journalist covering electric vehicles for more than a decade, and I’m pretty good at connecting the dots, and in this case, I’ve had the help of a couple of great sources, too. I’m not saying that this is the Donut Lab battery, but since they are not sharing much, we have to speculate, and all evidence points to a Finnish nanotechnology startup called Nordic Nano and its Chief Scientist, Dr. Bela Bhuskute. Donut Lab invested in Nordic Nano in October 2025, just months before this announcement. At the time of writing this, the press release has fewer than 200 views. The announcement went under the radar, and while Marko said that Nordic Nano is more of a “solar company” during our interview, the announcement mentions both solar and energy storage. Dr. Bhuskute’s research at Tampere University focuses on amorphous Titanium Dioxide nanostructures, which could benefit many different technologies, including batteries. It fits the “miracle” specs perfectly: - 100,000 Cycles: Traditional solid-state batteries are crystalline (like a brick wall) and crack when ions rush in. Dr. Bhuskute’s amorphous Titanium Dioxide is disordered (like a sponge) and “breathes,” allowing it to expand and contract without breaking. - 5-Minute Charge: This chemistry stores energy via “pseudocapacitance,” which is basically like Velcro. Ions stick to the surface almost instantly rather than having to burrow deep inside the material. - The Manufacturing: Nordic Nano uses a “nanofluid” printing process for its solar product using the technology. This aligns with Donut Lab’s description of a “clay-like” material that enables an easier manufacturing process. Some call this “battery printing”, which could explain Donut Lab’s ability to bring this to production in record time. When I asked Marko for the volumetric energy density (Wh/L), he claimed he “couldn’t remember”. Volumetric energy density is one of the few specs that Donut Lab hasn’t released. This battery is lighter than lithium-ion, but it could be bigger due to the amorphous nature of the titanium dioxide. However, the CEO claimed it has a higher volumetric density than traditional Li-ion batteries, without providing a specific number. If that’s true, not only could electric vehicles and energy storage switch to this new chemistry, but even personal electronics, such as smartphones. In 2025, Nordic Nano has been making moves, including securing a former large retail location in Imatra, Finland, near the Russian border: It could be where the company has set up production. Following investment from the Finnish government, Nordic Nano had to elaborate a bit on its products and confirmed that it is working on “solar energy systems and energy storage solutions”: The company’s range of products includes two product families: solar energy systems and energy storage solutions: The ultra-thin and flexible solar film collects twice the amount of energy compared to traditional silicon-based solar panels. Solid-state salt batteries are manufactured by printing from nanofluid, which enables the efficient use of space and the production of batteries in varying shapes. Furthermore, the company confirmed that it is using a “screenprinting” manufacturing method. This is not new. Other companies have produced battery cells with this technology with varying degrees of success. It appears that the bet is that the amorphous rather than crystalized titanium dioxide nanostructure could be more easily adapted and scaled with this manufacturing technology. Electrek’s Take I’m naturally skeptical, and this screams “too good to be true”, but I can’t find anything that categorically rejects the claims. I get battery breakthrough announcements in my inbox every week, and most of the time they never amount to anything. If I decide to spend some time researching them and talking to experts, I generally quickly hit a problem or two that make them commercially unviable. This announcement is different. We can’t really investigate the actual breakthrough; we can only speculate about it, since it is guarded. Marko’s logic for guarding the chemistry is sound, and the incentives to lie about what they have aren’t clear if he is not currently raising money. Then, because they claim this is already in production and will be in a deliverable product within weeks, we will know whether the claims are true in short order, and their reputations, especially Marko’s, are on the line. During my interview, Marko didn’t seem too worried about it. It doesn’t sound like someone who needs to quickly figure out how to deliver this, but rather someone who has a couple of aces in their hand and is looking to maximize them. It’s also strange that this innovation and then production quickly comes from a relatively small company. I thought researching Donut Lab would make me more skeptical about the claims, but it’s the contrary. It confirms that their technology stems from years of research, backed by university and government funding for its commercialization. Could it be that this critical research went under the radar and a small electric motorcycle startup in need of a significant bump in energy density stumbled upon it? Then, a savvy entrepreneur quickly found a way to optimize the impact of this potentially groundbreaking tech by spinning out a startup from the motorcycle company to market the battery to a broader market. Maybe? This could be real, or it could be hype. Again, I’m still skeptical, but I can’t point to anything specific that would disprove any claim made about this miracle battery. Again, if this is true, we are talking about a complete reset of the entire energy and transportation sectors. Donut Lab would become one of the biggest companies in the world. A Nobel Prize would be coming to Dr. Bhuskute and her colleagues in the near future. If it’s not, Marko and Donut Lab’s reputation would be destroyed. There might also be a middle conclusion where the battery is nearly as good as they claim, but when you ramp up production, other problems arise, such as scrap, which has been the undoing of another company that recently tried screenprinting batteries. Who knows? But it sounds like we should find out soon. Within weeks, we should get independent verifications of the specs. Then the bikes get delivered within months. You can fake a presentation, but there are things you can’t fake.
