Caesar banned compounding interest, while capping simple interest at 1%. The “aristocracrats” (a.k.a. jews) were not happy, so they did him dirty just like they did Hitler later for killing the Federal Reserve in Germany and making interest illegal.

It wasn’t Augustus Caesar and wasn’t 1 % Roman law during Theodosius I’s time, usury (charging interest) wasn’t outright banned but was regulated with caps. The **Justinian Code** (codified later in the 6th century but reflecting earlier practices) set maximum interest rates, typically 4-8% annually, depending on the loan type (e.g., commercial vs. personal). Christian doctrine, amplified by Theodosius’s establishment of Christianity as the state religion in 380 CE, increasingly condemned usury as sinful, with church councils like Nicaea (325 CE) and Carthage (348 CE) restricting it among clergy and laypeople. However, secular Roman law continued to permit capped interest, creating a tension between religious ideals and economic practices.

Wow! Talk about important contextual information not taught in US public schools. Julius Caesar was unalived by the Roman senate who were colluding with loan shark bankers because Caesar banned usury and ruined their debt slavery scam.

As a lover of history, I want to see the sources on this.. not just some dummie on YouTube giving his take. Let's see some verifiable quotes or even better, some trusted literature.
