Wildfire response starts long before a fire begins. In Boise, Idaho, Secretary Doug Burgum and I met with the men and women on the front lines to discuss how we strengthen prevention, improve forest health, reduce hazardous fuels, strategically stage aviation assets, and ensure our firefighters have the resources they need. As part of that effort, USDA and DOI are accelerating and improving fire prevention techniques to make our forests safer and less susceptible to uncontrolled wildfires through mechanical thinning, prescribed fire, and active forest management. These proactive steps support the more than 30,000 federal firefighters, 400+ aircraft, and all our state and local partners working to protect communities across the country. Under President Donald J. Trump, Dept. of Agriculture, U.S. Department of the Interior, and USDA Forest Service are working together to keep communities safe, protect our firefighters, and put fires out quickly. God bless our wildland firefighters—and all those working behind the scenes to support them. 🇺🇸

Last week, CAL FIRE announced that the second of our seven C-130H airtanker conversions was ready for action–adding to the largest civil aerial firefighting fleet in the world. 💪 The fleet is positioned across California to reach the most remote areas of the state in 20 minutes or less. Our C-130H air tankers are a powerful firefighting tool, delivering 4,000 gallons of fire retardant per flight. CAL FIRE Incident Management Team (IMT) 4 has arrived in Washington State. Wildfires do not stop at state lines, and neither does our commitment to helping one another. By sharing resources, expertise, and incident management capabilities, agencies work together to protect lives, safeguard communities, and strengthen wildfire preparedness throughout the region. While CAL FIRE regularly mobilizes resources to assist neighboring states through mutual aid agreements, this deployment marks a historic milestone—the first time a CAL FIRE Incident Management Team has been activated to the State of Washington. CAL FIRE IMT 4 was mobilized under the Northwest Wildland Fire Protection Agreement (NW Compact), which enables member states, territories, and Canadian provinces to share personnel, equipment, and expertise when wildfire activity exceeds local resource capacity. San Bernardino County Fire and CAL FIRE Partner on Front Country Fuel Reduction Project SAN BERNARDINO, CA — The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, assisted by CAL FIRE, began Phase 1 of the North San Bernardino Front Country Fuel Reduction Project. This proactive wildfire mitigation effort is designed to reduce fire risk and improve protection for communities along the northern edge of the City of San Bernardino. The project will establish a 50-foot-wide fuel break extending approximately one mile from Highway 18 west to Devils Canyon. Crews will be removing vegetation and reducing available fuels that could contribute to wildfire growth and spread. Historically, several significant wildfires have originated in this area and threatened homes and neighborhoods throughout North San Bernardino. The construction of this fuel break will help slow the spread of future wildfires, improve firefighter access, and provide an additional layer of protection for residents and property. Work on the project is expected to take approximately one to two weeks to complete.
