The rent in Providence is too high and we need real solutions to bring down costs for families. And I understand why rent control sounds compelling, but the reality is that it has consistently been shown to hurt those it is meant to help. In Cambridge, in Berkeley, in Portland, in St. Paul and more, rents actually went up under rent control and new construction plummeted. My plan provides direct rent relief now and lowers costs long-term through continued new construction. I look forward to working with the City Council to continue addressing the root cause of our housing shortage and bring down costs for all our neighbors.

Igbo Woman: Help us, Yoruba landlords refused to rent their houses to us Igbos in Lagos. I went to 10 houses and 9 said no to Igbo. People in her comment section were telling her it's the result of the Yoruba hate that Igbos are doing online. Igbos will come online and lie that they have bought all Yoruba houses and land finished, Denigrating Yorubas, so how come Igbos are still the ones crying that Yoruba landlords are not renting houses to them if they have bought it all? Igbos do not realise that their actions online are actually affecting their people offline. Also, Landlords are now aware that Igbos hardly pay rent once they rent a house. This woman has two adult daughter’s in their 20’s. They live with her without chipping in for years. Now she has been dating a man for 2 months and she wants him to move in. So now that he’s moving in, she says they are getting married and she wants the two daughters to pay rent to the tune of $800 a month each. Everything was fine and she wasn’t struggling before, but now her man is moving in and she wants went. She’s also letting him be the man if the house and make the rules, the rent was his idea, also worth mentioning is he doesn’t work either. We are able to directly challenge housing as a wealth-building tool and, through regulation, strike a blow to the entire real estate industry at once. The beauty of rent stabilization and rent control is that it weakens the speculative value of the real estate asset. The value is no longer based on what the landlord is able to get, but rather it’s based on a state public board deciding how much rent is going up. And yes, that board is controlled by the real estate industry, and yes, there could be a better way to regulate it. But the idea is that we could weaken the entire industry at once through a strong rent control campaign, and that would strengthen our ability to fight for social housing.” Serious question: How is this constitutional?

I think that has to do with some type of Christian guilt or something. But it’s cool when people you really look up to think that you’re a good person or that you’re doing good things. I only know what to do because I see other people in my life doing good things and listening to trans people who need representation and money for healthcare and rent. I kind of think that it’s just an artist’s—and anybody who has money—it’s kind of your duty to give it away. I don’t really know what else there is to harmony other than giving.”
