California is failing its people and the entire interior west by refusing to make desperately-needed upgrades that leverage having the nation’s third-largest coastline.

Over the last decade, California, New York, and Illinois each lost roughly a million people, while Florida, Texas, and Tennessee gained nearly that many combined. Red states added jobs faster over the same period. $100 goes further in Tennessee than it does in New Jersey. California and New York have the highest tax rates in the country. Texas and Florida have no state income tax. The argument is that higher taxes and more regulation produce better outcomes for working people.
