California is supporting 40 million people today using the SAME water infrastructure from the 1960s when the state was home to just 16 million. California is failing its people and the entire interior west by refusing to make desperately-needed upgrades that leverage having the nation’s third-largest coastline.

California has the best weather in America. People are still leaving. Over the last decade, California, New York, and Illinois each lost roughly a million people, while Florida, Texas, and Tennessee gained nearly that many combined. Red states added jobs faster over the same period. $100 goes further in Tennessee than it does in New Jersey. California and New York have the highest tax rates in the country. Texas and Florida have no state income tax. The argument is that higher taxes and more regulation produce better outcomes for working people. The working people those policies were supposed to help are the ones leaving. Millions of people don’t make the same decision by accident.
