Maybe in America it's negative. In Africa, middle east, India, Pakistan, etc we do it with a pure spirit of respect.

She needs to go hang out with some other cultures because it’s definitely not just a black thing.

She’s obviously talking to black people. I’ve never heard any member of any other race even use the word ‘Auntie’.

Might be micro aggression in America but in many other countries it’s a sign of respect! You call men uncle too. And same aged people brother or sister 🤷🏽‍♀️

🤦🏾‍♂️ Black people don’t do the same thing as other cultures. It’s not an attack on Black women because Black men get called Unc and Big Bro. No micro aggression, just a cultural difference. Auntie is only an insult if you take it that way. Most women become Aunts at that age.

This is worse than that clip of the white folks wit the “unc” shit smh Why the deep dive into a colloquialism just because you don’t wanna feel old. Dog it is never this serious.

Girl STFUPPPPPPP!!!!! How's that for a micro aggression???? Your argument sounds more like a bad essay question on a sociology exam instead of intellectual conversation 😂😂😂

No, it’s because as a black man if you’re more than 20 years older than me, I’m a show you the same respect I will show my aunt. If you’re 50 years plus I’m gonna show you the same respect as my Nana so I’ma call you, Nana

The only people calling random strangers “Auntie” are either black or want to be black. Yes, lots of anger and passive aggression with these. To what was said at the end: People say ma’am or sir, not as a slight but because if they don’t know if you’re married they don’t us Ms or Mrs, they use ma’am - this is because they are showing respect.

It should be seen as a sign of respect. Black peoples were forcibly separated from their families and started the practice in America to cope with the loss of real family ties. Japanese honorifics serve the same purpose. Don’t be mad that we have reached this age of respect.

Where is this woman from?? In FBA culture the more you age you get the title of unc(man) Auntie (woman) it's a term of respect and endearment! At 48 I'm proud to be called unc now and I make sure I carry that title with respect and dignity ✊🏿 ALL POWER to my beautiful people

Black people have an issue with community and community building the absolute most individualistic group of people I get called big brother by kids in Thailand as an afrolatino It’s a way of building bonds with those that live in your general proximity This is exhausting

It really depends on the context and what’s going on when it’s said. Personally, if I’m called auntie it doesn’t offend me because I’m older than a lot of people that call me that. But you can tell when it’s being used as an insult vs when it’s disrespect

ain no way she one of us n saying that 🤣 if she is one of us then i wonder what ethnicity she grew up around, played around, learned around n worked around n etc bc none of us get offended by unc or auntie. its a respect thing. based off either knowledge or age. sometimes both.
