NGO's are destroying California. Aside from insane bureaucracy, one of the main reasons prescribed fire doesn't get done in CA is because every time there's an RX fire project, some "friends of the spotted owl" type NGO will sue to block it. Grizzly Flats burned down because their RX fire project was tied up for a decade, and then the Caldor Fire wiped out the entire town. Currently, CalFire's *entire* wildfire mitigation strategy has been blocked by a judge because the California Chaparral Institute sued to block it. They're prioritizing plants over people...fire-dependent plants, BTW. So what's the inevitable outcome? The Palisades Fire. Topanga State Park was horrifically overgrown with flammable fuels, the plant police working for the state admitted as such, in private text messages. All of this overgrowth is due to these people blocking the reduction of plants surrounding the Palisades. Inevitably, the conflagration comes, and due to the hands-off policy championed by these NGOs, the fire is exponentially worse than anything you could imagine, and thousands of people get their lives destroyed. Today, not one person has been able to rebuild their home and move back in, a year later. But, all the plants have already grown back and the hillsides are lush again, building back up to fuel the next wildfire. Fire is good for the ecosystem, after all. But by blocking fire from touching the park grounds for decades, the State and their friendly NGOs *guaranteed* this devastating conflagration. The result is a $30-50bn flurry of transactions...permits, rebuilding, realtor commissions, new furniture, new cars, new fire engines, more helicopters...it's a racket, and nobody in power is incentivized to stop it...for many people, the fire was a tragedy, but for many many more people...it's a gold rush.
