It's pretty wild to call him ungrateful after he spent his own money.

My wife did that to me. She took out a credit card using my income as the income source when she was unemployed to get me a gift I told her MONTHS in advance not to get me. I’m pretty sure that was the moment our marriage was over although it continued for another 6 years.
