Calling them "Woke Right" isn't vacant. It's deep. It pulls from a proper understanding of Fascism as a reaction to Marxism and weak "liberalism" as an alienating force. When Jordan and I called out Woke Left 10 years ago, we were right then, and we're right now about Woke Right.

It's a tool of demonisation and marginalisation. It's precisely the kind of thing William F. Buckley Jnr did to neuter the American right of his period when it looked like those most concerned with America's interests--not Israel's--would rise to prominence. Tell the truth, James. You saw what he did, and you thought... "I could do that."

You didn't call out woke left. Woke was a left movement (specifically a rebrand of 'Awaken to class consciousness') It has deep left wing roots and self identification. Woke left called out woke left. The same cannot be said of the astroturfed "woke right" meme.

Dude literally thinks renaming the reactionary right "woke right" is somehow an intellectual achievement. But because the reactionary right wasn't popular enough, and the hype around Woke died, thus James' attention dried up, and he came up with this fascinating idea to lump in nearly every significant commentator on the right with the reactionary right. It is a masterful grift at staying relevant, while perfecting woke tactics, pushing all the right buttons.

It’s absolutely spot on. Surgically precise.

Just turn your sound down to zero and watch James’ body language. It’s not the body language of someone who knows he has truth on his side. Imho.

Jordan pointed out that the fundamental problem with the left is they can’t admit when they go too far. That’s woke. The right now increasingly has that problem. It will be the fuel for the democrats’ comeback.

Aside from being critical of Israel, is there anything else that constitutes a core characteristic of the so-called "Woke Right"?

Jordan Peterson explained the Woke Right ("Alt Right") back in 2018. It's not new, but two things are. 1) It's making a concerted bid for power in mainstream conservative spaces now and significantly succeed after years of infiltration 2) We know what makes them "Alt" is Woke. There's an interesting additional point here that's very important. Peterson is talking about how the Left tried to label him "Alt Right" as a polarizing smear. The Woke Left could do that because it can draw a distinction between itself and the reaction it created so long as there's distinction in the names. They could make it seem like there was a sprawling Alt Right that's really evil and scary and only the Woke Left can resist it. Peterson was having to defy this at considerable effort, and much of the Left didn't buy it anyway. This is the dialectic. The term "Woke Right" throws a monkey wrench into this dialectical program and breaks the machine. The (Woke) Left can post up and do the dialectic against any name for it except "Woke Right." The reason is that the term "Woke Right" is derivative to Woke, so you cannot think of the Woke Right without also thinking of the Woke Left, which is the referent. What makes the Woke Right bad is being almost just like the Woke Left. "Woke," not Left or Right, becomes the problem, short-circuiting the dialectic and neutering the Left on this dimension of their united front tactics. It therefore puts the problem squarely where it belongs: on Woke. This frees people up to consider Left and Right (better: liberal and conservative) outside of the polarizing game of radical extremes. It was this factor that ultimately sold me completely on the term "Woke Right" not just as accurate and good but as genius. H/t (clip and argument) Entropyrian, who is a great follow.
