Today, I had a firsthand experience with the Social Health Authority (SHA) at Mbagathi Hospital, and it reinforced my belief that our government systems can work if we support and refine them. SHA is a great initiative that ensures access to healthcare for all Kenyans, but its implementation needs improvement. One key challenge I noted is the lack of civic education many people don’t understand how SHA works or how to register. Standardizing hospital rates for equivalent services would also help prevent patients from being forced to pay out-of-pocket expenses beyond what SHA covers. If properly implemented, SHA can truly ease the financial burden on Kenyans seeking healthcare. Today, I was able to discharge five patients at Mbagathi using SHA, and they paid nothing. This is proof that the system works when applied correctly. Instead of discouraging it, we should embrace it, give constructive feedback, and push for better implementation. Civic education is key, and those responsible for executing this program must ensure Kenyans fully understand and own it. Together, we can make universal healthcare a reality. Haya ni maoni yangu kwa Leo .

I’ll say the quiet part out loud: It was the federal government that broke our healthcare system. And we have a large amount of our aging population, that VOTED for the Liberals who crippled it. They brought in more Temporary Foreign Workers, more asylum seekers & focused on solely on “revenues” from them but, THEY DID NOT ACCOUNT FOR WHAT THIS WOULD DO TO OUR HEALTHCARE AND COSTS. No amount of taxes can fix this. And instead, Carney gives a foreign country $2.5 Billion while Canadians die waiting for healthcare.

The Canada Health Act is clear: care is based on need, not on your ability to pay. The UCP's healthcare scheme is breaking that fundamental promise to Albertans and creating a system where money talks louder than medical need. The Alberta NDP will always fight for a strong public health-care system that works for everyone, regardless of what tax bracket you’re in. Albertans deserve care they can rely on, when and where they need it.
