I’ll bet they are cooperating driving fish into the shallows where they can’t escape. I’d predict this pod uses this location, and that they have refined the technique.

The pod is herding fish and misjudged the depth of the inlet. Many dolphins will beach their prey and end up beaching themselves, and are sometimes attracted by fishing activity. At first, they’re hunting. Then, they’re panicking a li’l.

The sound is so intense that marine mammals will swim hundreds of miles, dive incredibly deep, or even beach themselves in an attempt to flee the unbearable din. I'm not an expert, James, but I believe the phenomenon you're referring to is related to sonar. When boats or submarines use sonar, it can inadvertently drive groups of animals toward the shore as they try to escape from the sound. It's similar to how you would react if someone used a sound-based weapon on you – you would cover your ears and run. In essence, it's a comparable situation, in my humble opinion.
