I suggest you read the Highway Code and learn to drive. I bet you are one of those people who, whilst driving down a motorway slip road, you signal right a quarter of the way down and expect—just because you're indicating—that those already on the motorway have to give way to you to let you on.

I wouldn't have stopped either. There is no rule requiring drivers to give way to pedestrians waiting to cross at the exit of a roundabout. Stopping whilst exiting a roundabout would be dangerous.

When exiting a roundabout, you are not turning into a road at a junction, you continuing along the "main road". I have spoken to driving examiners about this and they suggested that one should not stop for a pedestrian at a roundabout exit, unless they have already started crossing. You would have to stop for a pedestrian if they were in the road already, no matter where that is. The only other choice would be to mow them over, which would be stupid beyond recall. If one person is an idiot, it does not give you the right to be one yourself.

I had one car stop to let me cross just a few days ago. First time that's ever happened at a roundabout crossing. I was very surprised. They actually stopped and waved for me to cross. They were lucky to not get rear-ended by cars behind who had no intention of stopping!

1) The highway code says you should stop to let pedestrians cross at junction entrances IF safe to do so. 2) Most drivers don't know, because they haven't read the highway code for years. 3) The police won't do anything, because it's a "should", and is at the driver's discretion.

IF it was a junction, then the traffic would have to wait for them to cross. But because its a roundabout, it doesn't apply. Its only IF they were crossing before the traffic approached that the traffic has to wait.

A few years ago it was clarified that cars exiting a roundabout should stop to allow pedestrians to cross. Nobody follows this rule because it is stupid and feels dangerous to stop at the exit of a roundabout like that

Alot of arseholes commenting on this post and having a pop! My sensible answer is, isn't it only on side roads, T junctions etc that we have to stop for pedestrians? If they get to just walk out into traffic and cross anywhere then why do we still have crossings?

It’s an exit from a roundabout. Not a legal requirement to stop but to be aware.

The muppet OP didn't want to wait for a few cars to pass, instead he wanted them to slow causing the entire roundabout to come to a stand still. Yes pedestrians have the right of way but common sense is not to expect cars to slow in dangerous circumstances like this.

i keep joking to highway designers to stop designing crossing points anywhere near roundabouts because of this rule. where does the 'junction' start at roundabouts? where is a safe crossing point that isn't going to get them dragged into a coroners court
