Morons those are drop axels they only go down when the weight requires more axels otherwise they raise off the ground why are people so stupid

This is called tag axles this is meant for when you have a heavy load you can drop those axles to the ground to help disperse the weight evenly

Why is it some people's first instinct to whine about making something illegal

Those are drop axles, and depending on the weight of your load you sometimes need them, and when you don’t you retract them as seen below:

Common sense is not that common.

You can’t really be that fucking stupid or can you?

For the Ignorant ones that know nothing . The extra tires are there to allow heavier loads. There are DOT regulations that dictate how many tires are required for certain weights . When the truck is empty or carrying a light load those tires are not lowered.

why mock ? the person is using his knowledge and is worried, and justified in his worry because of the limited knowledge no need to mock but only to explain mockers gets stitches

god some people are so fucking retarded

All tires have a maximum load capacity. When the truck is carrying a heavier load than normal he lowers the 3 tires that are tucked underneath - not always being used - to spread the extra weight across all tires.

90% sure this is done for heavier loads to allow the weight to spread over a larger area so the tires aren’t under a lot of stress.

It’s a heavy duty triaxle with tag wheels that runs in flat areas. The tires are so they can haul heavier loads and those wheels take the weight off the main axles. They still go round just like the other tires. They don’t run them in the mountains because the brakes can’t handle the heavier loads going to large hills.

OMFG… just keep driving.. leave the secrets of the universe to the professionals.. this dude obviously is entertained by coloring books.

They are not replacement tires. These single tires are on carrier axles. These axles are lowered only when the weight of the load requires them to help carry the load. Otherwise, the axle rides in a prone position, not touching the pavement.

This crap I learn from truckers on this app is amazing. Makes me understand and appreciate your line of work when I find myself on the road. Well, except all that sick shit you do at truck stop bathrooms in the dead of night.

These people vote. And you don’t have to guess what direction either.

It would be impossible for a trucker to explain a drop axle to an idiot, like rubbing two brain cells together and

Not having them would be the illegal thing actually

It’s called bridge law. To carry heavier loads you must spread the weight out. This reduces wear and tear on the highways. The smaller tires are so the whole axle can be lifted when it’s empty or driving on dirt roads. It’s completely normal and required by law.
People used to have these thoughts internally, then through reasoning within themselves, or with another individual, figure out what's going on. Now we just take the shortcut and post our questions for all to see.

Heres what they are and what they are for

Drop axle for the weight when it’s loaded.

those small wheels identify as big wheels...

Sir, those are tag axles. You only put them down if you need them. Some companies put smaller rubber on them because they have the same weight rating but are cheaper. Don't have to worry about speed/torque/efficiency because they are not connected to the drive line.

Those are speed tires so he can get to your moms house faster

You've never seen dump trucks that have the wheels up not touching the road? this is what happens when they're needed

Aren't those for load dispersion?

Weight restrictions due to road construction and time of year. Heavy loads require more ground contact so they don’t damage the road.

This is on a dump truck I'm assuming? I'm not being a smartass here, but I have never heard of this. My dad drove tractor-trailers through most of my childhood, but I've never had the experience or exposure to this.

Let's see, They built a $100,000 dump truck and they're not sure it's legal?

They’re called Pusher axles you can drop em down when you have a heavy load to help distribute weight

Every tire has a specific weight limit. On heavy loads the extra tires can be dropped down to alleviate weight on the primary tires.

Function: Increase truck payloads and improve weight distribution. Position: Behind the drive axles. Liftable: Can be raised when the truck is empty to improve maneuverability and turning radius. Wheelbase: Lowers the wheelbase when installed, allowing for a longer body.
